...to think that if Comic Relief are going to do a "Woman Wednesday" blog about "inspirational female figures", it should have an inspirational female figure in it?

Comic Relief are doing a new weekly blog, about inspirational women.

"Women Wednesday’s is our new weekly column for Gender Justice month here at Comic Relief, where we will be giving the spotlight to one inspirational female figure per week. We focus on women who have created change and spearheaded movements for other women, and stood up against discrimination against gender and sexuality."

Fantastic, right? They've got links to all kinds of amazing women, working in very challenging conditions across the world, who are helping to create a better world for everyone, not just themselves. What a brilliant blog theme! What brilliant, inspirational woman are we all going to learn about today, I wonder?

Well. Here's who they picked as their "inspirational female figure": www.comicrelief.com/news/women-wednesdays-heres-why-lili-elbe-our-inspirational-figure-week

Women deserve better, Comic Relief. You've really screwed up on this one.

I am so sick of male people being awarded stuff for females. This annoys the fuck out of me, I don't get why they cannot pick an actual woman, and have another day for transwomen of whatever. Seems to be a weekly occurrence now that some male is celebrated as a female Hmm

Shriek · 17/11/2018 18:22

#Comic Belief just that!!!

ArcheryAnnie · 17/11/2018 19:22

Oh yeah I know, I won't donate. That'll show them. Punish the charities that benefit from comic relief, yeahhhhh!

Honkersbonkers did you miss the bit where women have mentioned about donating to the charities they like directly?

I donate to charities that do good in the world, who improve the conditions for everyone in it. If a charity, or charity hub like Comic Relief, is actively doing harm in the world - in this instance by contributing to the movement removing safety, dignity and privacy for women and girls - then it makes perfect sense from a charitable point of view to cease donating to them and instead donate to someone else.

Charities have to compete for our money. They aren't entitled to it. If a charity is harming women and girls then it makes no sense for me to donate to it so that it is enabled to carry on perpetuating that harm.

vile

Back atcha.

What’s the best email to complain to Comic Relief, which have PPs been using? I’m not on Twitter. Thank you

For once I have to give credit to the daily mail. They have realised that the emperor is naked. And every comment is on the side of the teacher. Not one cry of bigot or transphobe.

Notable that there is a belief amongst the kids that they would be bullied if they came out as lesbian but are idolised as trans.

CaveMum · 18/11/2018 13:31

seekingclarity, the right-wing of the Press have been talking about this for some time, it’s only now that the left-wing are starting to catch up. From what I’ve seen the majority of TRAs are very left-wing.

The DM does print some dross - but it’s actually less ‘frothing at the mouth’ than the Guardian and some of the writing is not bad.

It really is ‘opposite world’ these days isn’t it?

FekkoThePenguin · 18/11/2018 14:02

Any news outlets reporting on a hospital employing a graphologist to try to track down someone who had been graffitiing (?) the non-gender loos in a hospital?

Twitter is a revelation these days... (batshit as it is 99.9% of the time).

HermioneWeasley · 18/11/2018 14:10

I’ve had a “response” to my complaint. So that’s the last money they get from me.

FekkoThePenguin · 18/11/2018 14:16

Do tell them

HermioneWeasley · 18/11/2018 15:17

Oh, I have!

OrchidInTheSun · 18/11/2018 16:06

Fekko - in the Times I believe

ToeCleavage · 19/11/2018 04:57

Ffs

FekkoThePenguin · 19/11/2018 07:47

Do share that link.

tinatsarina · 19/11/2018 08:04

I put in a complaint just stating there were many inspiring women they could have chosen and that women do not have penis's

FekkoThePenguin · 19/11/2018 08:17

Have they still not said what their chosen person has done for humanity/women/society/the poor...hungry...sick...?

Anything for anyone?

ApplesinmyPocket · 19/11/2018 09:31

I filled in the contact form, telling them I wasn't happy with their message that the best "inspiring female" they could find was... a male. Wonderful. Hmm

I'm also Hmm at the casual reference to the attempted uterus transplant. A uterus from an actual woman - maybe SHE had some kind of 'inspiring story' - but oh wait - just not so inspiring as this man's.

tinatsarina · 19/11/2018 11:57

@HermioneWeasly I just got the same reply

sue51 · 19/11/2018 12:01

I put in a complaint to be an inspirational woman is it now necessary to have a penis. Got the same reply.

IJustLostTheGame · 19/11/2018 12:47

I'm just confused by the whole thing.
Was Lili Elbe even any good as an artist?

PositivelyPERF · 19/11/2018 12:57

While part of me feels sorry for Lili Elbe, as they sound like they were a very confused individual, who was taken advantage of by a sick, twisted doctor who, in my opinion, used them as an experiment, that doesn’t change the fact that they only attempted a ‘sex change’ for their own gratification. Nothing they attempted was because they wanted to help other people and in fact most likely resulted in the death of two young women. That’s some fucking example to put up as an inspirational person for women.
