to be worried about this PP bleeding *pic, sorry if TMI*

PP bleeding has been brown and very minimal the past week or so. I'm 3.5 weeks PP. Woke up after a sleep today and my underwear was soaked. Wiped and got a small clot. It's bright red again. Put a sanitary towel in and will check back in an hour or so.

Not sure if I need to worry about this. Anyone else experienced the same? Waiting for midwife to call me back as the hospital is extremely busy and they only have receptionists at the desk at the moment :(

I also had problems with the placenta during pregnancy, not sure if this makes a difference but I vaguely remember reading that this puts you at higher risk of issues with bleeding after delivery.

Not sure if I'm worrying too much here...

I don’t think the picture is anything to worry about. I was told to ring if any clots over the size of a 50p. When I had one at least 4 times that size they just wanted to make sure there was no signs of infection or my uterus not contreacting. Best to speak to the midwife to put your mind at ease.

UpstartCrow · 14/11/2018 17:13

Sorry for the question, but is there any strong or unusual odour from the clots? Do you feel well in yourself? Do you have a raised temperature, or is anything else a bit off?

Miecro · 14/11/2018 17:14

Thanks @MrsMarmite1234

Forgot to add I was in hospital last week for 3 days with an infection of unknown origin (though not sure that's relevant).

I was just worried my bleeding had almost stopped and seems to have started again.

@UpstartCrow I feel ok apart from being exhausted. I only got out of hospital 3 days ago as I had an infection of unknown origin with a temperature of nearly 40. Though have had a tonne of penicillin so maybe the likelihood of me having an infection now is low?

No foul odour which is a positive.

Mine stopped and then restarted after the big clot I mentioned. I wondered if the clot was blocking the exit 😂. As PP has said - how do you feel in yourself? It’s likely they will ask you lots of questions and make an assessment over the phone. Always best to ring if youre unsure.

Hi, in the nicest way possible, a bunch of random non qualified women on mumsnet are not best placed to help you. Can you see your GP or HV regarding this? So sorry to sound rude. It’s just that if it is something to worry about, then medical attention is best

BuffaloGiraffe · 14/11/2018 17:17

I wouldn’t worry, that’s tiny really! I bled for a good 6 weeks PP.
Have you had a busy day? Bleeding always increased if I was too active.

Anythingforacatslife · 14/11/2018 17:18

Any chance you’ve been overdoing things? I had the same happen to me and was told it was because I was trying to do too much.

OutPinked · 14/11/2018 17:20

Same thing happened to me. Midwife discharged me day ten and by that stage my bleeding was brown and minimal, I was down to party liners. Following day I had a big gush on the toilet and lost a fair few clots like that one. I started bleeding red on and off for the next couple of days. Asked the midwife and she said it’s likely breastfeeding causing the uterus to shrink quickly or I’d overdone it. She said not to worry unless clots were bigger than a 50p.

Miecro · 14/11/2018 17:20

@Mammylamb I'm waiting for the midwife to call me back as my gp is closed on weds afternoons so just seeing if anyone had similar in the meantime. I actually find it really informative gaining other people's opinions. Rest assured I will still be speaking to the midwife though :) I agree that mn on its own doesn't replace the opinion of a medical professional :)

Actually had the most chilled day I've had in a long time! It's been all go go go since he was born. I have fed him a lot today though so that may be why.

If you feel "off" do please go and get checked out. Not wanting to scare you but I had a secondary PPH at 4 weeks PP, because of retained placenta. It's very serious and no doctor will question you wanting a checkover. In addition to the haemorrhage, there was a foul smell and my uterus was "boggy" (not contracted down). I thought nothing of it until it was almost too late. Go and get checked out and put your mind at rest :) x

Miecro · 14/11/2018 17:26

Sorry you went through that @Missdread - I'm sure this is nothing (hoping anyway!). I am feeling a bit crampy but otherwise fine. Still waiting for my call back but don't think it'll be anytime soon as they sounded manic!

Midwife said to see GP in the morning which isn't too reassuring. They're so busy I don't think she had time to talk to me.

Mine was like this. It was bright red on and off for a few weeks. Only a few days of brown. Then I got my period right on time 28 days pp 🙄 I was BF too and very unhappy 😂

ReflectionsofParadise · 14/11/2018 18:04

The cramps will likely be clots forming. I once passed one the size of a kidney and an orange 🤢 in the 2 weeks post birth. Grim. My uterus was the size it was supposed to be, fyi and my placenta came out in full and totally intact within 10 minutes of the birth so no retention with me. Remember to keep up with your iron and B vits!!

Miecro · 14/11/2018 18:05

@ReflectionsofParadise no way! I will be so gutted if my period comes back that quickly! 🙈 you poor thing.

If you are worried I think you need to speak to either your mid wife or gp.

I bled for about 8 weeks with mine and I do remember one clot that was so big I was concerned my liver had fallen out Grin. Oh the joys!!

Miecro · 14/11/2018 18:13

@Bumbledop I had one like that in the beginning! I actually felt it pass and I swear it was like passing the placenta all over again.
