I am starting to see this with increasing frequency on MN. From what I gather, it means posh/expensive. I don't know how those who use it pronounce and for or some reason I find it incredibly irritating! AIBU?

It comes from a shopping list found years ago where ‘naice ham’ was listed.

If you don’t like it then don’t use it.

TheQueef · 14/11/2018 13:02

Yabu

Years ago someone found a shopping list with naice ham, spelt thus.
We all instinctively knew what the list and author meant by naice so it stuck.

EmUntitled · 14/11/2018 13:03

YANBU I find it really jarring as well. If people just said "we live in a 'nice' area" it would mean the same thing.

Mumof1DS · 14/11/2018 13:04

Yanbu. It's irritating.

Blanchedupetitpois · 14/11/2018 13:07

I also find it irritating. People use it self-consciously in a way that really annoys me for some reason.

HildaZelda · 14/11/2018 13:07

Always makes me think of Mrs Brown: "Dat's naice"

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/11/2018 13:08

It's just an old MN joke that's all.

AdaColeman · 14/11/2018 13:11

YABU

Naice is a bit of MumsNet history, like the MN scarf and Yoni massage. It's one of the things that make us a community with shared memories and jokes.
But if you don't like being part of a nest of vipers, you don't have to join in! Wink

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 14/11/2018 13:11

You would hate me, I had a naice biscuit this morning and posted about it too > now feels paranoid

Wkbeans · 14/11/2018 13:12

YANBU. It's shite taggyness

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 14/11/2018 13:14

It was the posh blue foil wrapped one from the box of m&s biscuits that are for Christmas (but will be all gone before the weekend).
My coffee was shit though so karma got me for use of offensive language Wink

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/11/2018 13:14

Taggyness? What's that then?

MemoryOfSleep · 14/11/2018 13:16

tellmewhentheshiplands don't worry, I didn't see your post. Smile

Fair enough, I didn't know it was a MN joke. I've only been on here a year or so. Guess I ought to read the classics.

Andtheresaw · 14/11/2018 13:25

I once had a 'MN' moment with a total stranger at a wedding when we approached the buffet simultaneously and she exclaimed 'Oh good, they have naice ham!'. We caught each others' eye and shared a knowing moment.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/11/2018 13:25

Are you new? I've been on mn for years and it was naice ham when I joined Confused

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/11/2018 13:27
