I am starting to see this with increasing frequency on MN. From what I gather, it means posh/expensive. I don't know how those who use it pronounce and for or some reason I find it incredibly irritating! AIBU?

I've read penis beaker and elderly Korean lady, but my favourite thus far has been the one about the fat balls. Penis beaker was also hilarious.

I always took it to mean nice and not as posh as it seems, pretentious.Perfect for the right situations.

I need to find Elderly Korean Lady ...

MemoryOfSleep · 14/11/2018 13:29

@Andtheresaw how do you pronounce it??

It really wasn't.

thecatsthecats · 14/11/2018 13:34

I think it's a lot more expressive than 'nice' on it's own.

Nice = decent, ok, of an acceptable standard, no obvious deficiencies, an area with working, well behaved citizens etc, but they don't shop waitrose.
Naice = that extra bit special from the finest range, property prices just that bit extra and so on.

JellyBears · 14/11/2018 13:34

Snapped and farted it’s my favourite

DaphneDiligaf · 14/11/2018 13:37

I think it depends how it's used, in some cases it feels like a genuine boast, on others it seems tongue in cheek.

JellyBears · 14/11/2018 13:38

I think it’s used in here in a smarmy jealous kinda way tbh. Nothing wrong with buying nice if you can afford it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/11/2018 13:42

I think it’s used in here in a smarmy jealous kinda way tbh

It isn't. It's a way of saying something is "nice" quality.

Example - my dog chewed my naice shoes. Meaning the shoes were decent ones. That kind of thing.

wijjy · 14/11/2018 14:09

Naice = nice but with a soupçon of extra pretentiousness. It's a useful word.

Nice ham = reasonable quality

Naice ham = artisanal ham, wrapped in greaseproof paper and comes in a paper bag. Probably from a butcher with a hipster beard.

MrsTommyBanks · 14/11/2018 14:18

Penguin on a train is the best thread ever.
Naice is a part of MN legendness.

Hezz · 14/11/2018 14:55

Lots of people think penis beaker ruined mumsnet it did

Naice was around here back in the days it was all trees.

Fuckit I miss those days

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 14/11/2018 14:58

Elderly Korean Lady entertained me all of that afternoon .

OP I am with you

Naice , for some reason, boils my piss.

Oysterbabe · 14/11/2018 15:01

I like it, naice ham is very different from nice ham. I know what a poster means when they use it.

Personally I like filthy ham. The description needs to contain the words mechanically separated, formed and added water. I know it's wrong but it's so good.

EverardDigby · 14/11/2018 15:02

I used naice the other day (first time I'd used it) to mean posh and a bit pretentious, it's definitely different from nice.

BasinHaircut · 14/11/2018 15:06

I think if you don’t know about the naice shopping list it looks a bit wanky.

It’s an ‘in joke’ that’s all.

Someone on my road has a number plate that says ‘naiice’ and it always makes me chuckle.

TheQueef · 14/11/2018 15:29

Can anyone remember the bun fight about Robert Mugabe eyeliner pencils?
I don't think it made it to classics but it left me wheezing.
Such a random thing to row about.

Sohardtochooseausername · 14/11/2018 15:31

I like naice. It’s very useful shorthand.

Pursefirst · 14/11/2018 15:46

@Miggeldy, YES! It's always reminded me of dear Valerie.

OP, the fat balls one is my absolute favourite MN thread ever. I honestly laughed so hard I cried.

CovenofMiLsfromHades · 14/11/2018 15:55

I don't know why you don't like it OP? Are you a bit common and prefer value ham from Tesco?

OksanaAstankova · 14/11/2018 15:59

According to the Urban Dictionary, the definition of 'naice' is: "An adjective to describe a genuinely nice but naïve person."

This has upset me, for reasons that I can't quite articulate.

OksanaAstankova · 14/11/2018 16:01

@TheQuuef could you explain about the Robert Mugabe eyeliner? It rings a bell, but I've forgotten the context.

puzzledlady · 14/11/2018 16:02

Bet you don’t have a son called Tarquin. Or Wentworth. Or Apollo. Stand down OP. Ha ha ha

greendale17 · 14/11/2018 16:05

I agree with you OP
