FUCKING Facebook and its algorithms

Just had the shock of my life.
According to Facebook my mum is going to an event near me tomorrow. She passed away a couple of months ago so that's unlikely. I know Facebook is working on algorithms but seeing her name pop up as a recent like when actually it's not really shocked me and I'm in tears again.

She might have pressed that she was going months and months ago, and it’s coming up to remind people now the event is close.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my mum six weeks ago and I know how something innocuous can suddenly feel like a hard slap.

Sad

Have you not deleted her fb account yet?

SparkleBuns · 13/11/2018 14:05

I'm so sorry you've lost your mum ❤️ I can fully understand it must be horrible seeing something like that pop up. It may well be that she clicked it ages ago like above user suggested x

Sorry for your loss OP (and Shockers too).

I don't think that's anything to do with FB algorithms though.

Is there an option to change her account settings so stuff like this can’t happen? I’ve got a feeling you can do that. Sorry for your loss Flowers

I had that with a relative, both an event he had regularly attended that came up and someone who tagged him in a photo years after he died that FB put up as that they were with the poster at that place now (it was an old photo of the place but neither person was in the photo, the poster had tagged several people in it like that). It was hard and I can only imagine how hard it would for you with your mum. I'm sad you've had to go through that, there is hopefully something someone can do to sort that out so it doesn't happen again.

There is a way that you can turn her Facebook page into a memorial page.

m.facebook.com/help/150486848354038 that will stop this happening again.

So sorry for your loss op Flowers

brizzledrizzle · 13/11/2018 14:24

Sorry to hear that. On FB there is a setting, not that it will help you unfortunately, which lets you choose somebody to look after your account after you've died. I haven't done it as I can't face it but really everybody should.

OP, I'm sorry for your loss.
