To ask for interview help !

As title suggests - I have an interview on Friday morning for a Midday Meals Supervisor within a primary school.

Now firstly I'm pleased my application wasn't binned - but I'm terrified of having an interview as my last was over 2 decades ago!

Also in the invitation email it stated this question

How would you ensure that children who are unwilling to participate in outdoor activities can be encouraged to join in with their peers?

Any help most appreciated! Have any of you had an interview for a similar role ? Any help with questions most helpful !
Ty

Hi Dragon

Firstly congrats and secondly don’t worry! Be yourself and breathe when you’re in the interview, don’t be afraid to take time to answer the questions and even say you’re nervous. The interviewers may back off a little.

I’d recommend googling standard interview Qs, I’ve worked in recruitment and HR for 6 years and we tend to use the nice questions first such as “tell me abit about yourself and why you’ve applied for this role” be honest, tell them what you enjoy doing I.e hobbies and interests and then move onto what attracted you to the role. They may ask what you know about the school or group of schools (I’m not sure what they are called lol) so make sure you look on their website (take notes on this too I’ve spoke more about this further in this post)

Depending on the interview they may be some competency based questions - I’d also google these if you’ve not had an interview for some time. It’s important you try to answer these as a specific example as it’s a behavioural type of question. A good way to keep on track is answering in a CARL format (Circumstance of the example, Action you took, the Result and what you Learnt - or would do differently) it keeps you on track and the interviewers won’t ‘probe’ as much.

With the question attached to the invite - I’d maybe take some notes with you - of the steps / measures you’d take to involve unwilling children to participate. It’s easy when you’re nervous to forget key things.

Also - write your questions down when the interviewers ask if you have any. A standard one is when will you find out - we tell candidates this but just incase it slips their mind.

If you’ve been provided with a job description I’d take a copy with you to interview as well as your notes - you’ll look organised!

Good luck! Smile

Ty !!!

I know my mind will go blank in the interview so is it 'ok' to take in notes I've made to be able to refer to ? Or is that frowned upon ?

@DragonBone of course you can take notes in with you Smile I always have done and secretly smile inside when I see a candidate doing this! You don’t need to write pages and pages just helpful hints to keep you on the right track!
