How much do you earn per anum before tax? What is your current position/job/career? Do you enjoy it?

OP posts:
RedBlu · 13/11/2018 11:38

£29k FT (35 hours), Legal Analyst plus a bonus of £2-3k per year. I am 30.

I have been lucky to get into a career like that as these days any vacancies that come up (very rarely) require all sorts of qualifications and degrees. I didn't even go to university!

Biker47 · 13/11/2018 11:47

Engineering/manufacturing sector, 30, £53k, work most weekends, shifts and callout. Job is fine, would definitely have to work more outside of where I am now, so I'm happy for the moment.

NotToday1601 · 13/11/2018 12:12

Hi @SunlightComingThroughTheHaze I'm 30.

girlwithadragontattoo · 13/11/2018 12:15

Reservations manager for a holiday company - €850 per month, though obviously it's a bit different as i'm outside of the UK. I'm full time and wages are very different here. Expat based in Europe

lenalove · 13/11/2018 12:25

£34k as an EA in the City - in terms of enjoyment it varies week by week (the work is largely a bit dull), but I do like my colleagues and I feel valued in the company.

NomineCornelia · 13/11/2018 12:42

On paper about £34K as a Senior Midwife Specialist in Maternity Critical Care so bottom of band 7 which will go up incrementally each year. In reality you take home more through working nights and weekends plus bank shifts if you want them.

I've been qualified 7 years and self-funded a Masters in my spare time which helped me get to band 7.

I love love love it- if I won the lottery I would still work. I love the 'people-ness' of it, working with mothers who have severe complications antenatally, postnatally or during labour and trying to help them have a better experience in what can be very challenging circumstances. I work in a unit with a good supportive and caring culture.

@ezeria you could consider applying for a position as a Maternity Support Worker- you would get a feel for the working environment, and could continue with bank shifts if you started an Access course.

SunlightComingThroughTheHaze · 13/11/2018 12:46

NotToday1601 that’s amazing! That’s genuinely brilliant, you should be so proud of yourself. That wage at 30 is excellent, especially as like you say you’ve managed it without uni too :)

High five fellow band 7er NomineCornelia, the new pay deal is excellent isn’t it? The bottom rung of band 7 will see the biggest percentage pay rise out of all of the bandings. The unions smashed it. I couldn’t believe it when I saw I was getting a 30% payrise just in the first few years of being qualified as a band 7!

Helpel · 13/11/2018 13:02

£51K for a 4 day week (£64K FTE), HR Business Partner for global company. I have two young children and the hours culture where I work is very relaxed - I arrive bang on time and leave on time. Can't say it would be the same in similar jobs in other organisations though! The work can be intense in nature and volume but is nearly always varied/interesting. Normally to get to this level in HR you need a degree and a post grad HR qualification (CIPD), but once you have that there is a lot of earning potential in HR.

NotToday1601 · 13/11/2018 13:16

Ah Thankyou @SunlightComingThroughTheHaze I am very proud of my career and congrats on your 30% pay rise!

I should add however to anyone reading this who wants more money (don't we all!) that it really doesn't buy happiness. I posted in another thread the other day which was discussing capitalism etc and I will maintain that whilst living a comfortable lifestyle is great, it's not that that brings happiness, for me anyway. X

£300k for 2 or 3 days a week for 20 or so weeks per year. Writing pays well when you’re good!

Oakenbeach · 13/11/2018 13:34

NMW full time so £15k... work hard and am never sick - hope to get a better job soon!

purplefig · 13/11/2018 14:43

@Oakenbeach Shock Shock Shock I am in awe! What type of writing do you do?

purplefig · 13/11/2018 14:44

@Iamnotlikethem omg what do you do?!?!?

GinDaddy · 13/11/2018 15:14

Fully expect to get flamed for this but it’s the truth - £127,600 - and 15-20% bonuses annually. I work in banking.

Soontobequalified · 13/11/2018 15:19

Currently nothing (student nurse), soon to be £23k

bluebeau · 13/11/2018 15:53

it sales
26k basic
about 26k comission on top this financial year hopefully

mumofamenagerie · 13/11/2018 16:06

33k for 3 days a week. Work from home + flexible work patterns. Never required to do overtime (although I sometimes will because I care about doing a good job!). Generous holiday allowance. I love my job and love the company I work for. Wouldn't change either for the world.

Idontneedyourjudgement · 13/11/2018 16:10

£55k, wfh around the kids school hours...doubled in the last 12 months....only issue is I've never been to uni so suffer major imposter syndrome Confused

InteriorLulu · 13/11/2018 16:25

£30k + before tax. Co-own a software consultancy with DH. Not officially full time but often work creeps into non-work days and evenings. All OK though because there is the flexibility if the DCs are off school for any reason.

I love my job - currently Operations Director, I look after the non-software development side of things (finance, HR, facilities, etc).

Slavingerwings · 13/11/2018 17:12

Yes purple it's books I ghostwrite. It's very flexible - I'll only be working one day this week, and probably about 4 hours, but it can be really intense at other times.

greeneyedlulu · 13/11/2018 17:25

manager in a factory - 4 day week - 22k - love my job!

whitecatsandblackcats · 13/11/2018 17:26

@slaverwings how do you even get into ghost writing? I used to write for a living (for TV) but it all went tits up years ago. I've never been able to figure out how you find the clients to ghostwrite (or how they find you)?

babyno5 · 13/11/2018 17:26

£75k plus bonus and healthcare. Technical Manager in manufacturing. Not enjoying it any more. Would love a career change but not a drop in income!!

Dillydallyer · 13/11/2018 17:27

£7000 but only work a job share pattern of two days out of ten as an emergency call handler. Absolutely despise it but it pays for our treats and means I can be available for everything the kids need for school etc
