How much do you earn per anum before tax? What is your current position/job/career? Do you enjoy it?

OP posts:
Tingatingatale · 12/11/2018 21:14

£45k plus bonus senior business analyst

I do enjoy my job plus I get to work flexibly around my children which is a major bonus

Blondie1993 · 12/11/2018 21:15

£23,500

Office administrator in a veterinary practice.

I absolutely love my job! My hours are really good, I have a lot of freedom, very small team who I get on very well with and it is definitely not like working in a normal office. Every day is different!

maplebaconbun · 12/11/2018 21:15

22K.... but will go up to 27k in time. Work in Local Authority in Social Care type service.

allwalkedout · 12/11/2018 21:18

£15000 for 2days a week. Teacher. Really don’t like it and looking for a way out. It’s good money for 2 days official time but the fact I work every day I’m off for at least 2/3 hours just isn’t worth it

Violetroselily · 12/11/2018 21:18

45k, compliance at a bank.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 12/11/2018 21:19

Lawyer (GC) and earn £98,500. I also get a £10,000 car allowance and usually a 30% bonus (but not guaranteed). I really do love my job but I do have to put in long hours and regularly work weekends/bank holidays and have had to work whilst on vacation.

In response to one posted re entry into the legal profession I think it depends, I work in-house so I’ve got a slightly easier time of it and employ lots of lawyers with children that need a good work/life balance. I’m a new mum so can’t realky comment on juggling a career with a baby but I know I’ll have to get a live in nanny. You can definitely get a good work/life Balance as a lawyer but I’d recommend staying away from private practice.

GP partner work full 3 days a week in my practice (and that's about 10/12 hours a day). I work 1 day a week in a management type job for my health board. One afternoon a month in a committee role. And one evening a week out of hours. Almost every night from home admin/CPD etc. The flexible portfolio type work gives me flexibility as a single parent. About £100k all jobs together.

Oneinthegrave · 12/11/2018 21:22

£7,500 approx, only working 12 hours a week cleaning in the morning before my partner starts his shift. Planning on doing this for the next year and abit until DS is in nursery then studying to become a qualified nurse.

I like my job because its so simple, no stress, no responsibility like my previous job in sales (13k- 52k depending on performance it was so up and down you couldn’t plan, £250 one week up to £1,000 other weeks). It gets me up and going early for the day and means we dont have any childcare bill.

SharkSave · 12/11/2018 21:23

Quantity Surveyor £54,000

Looking at some of these it makes me feel a bit embarrassed that people with much more important jobs than mine, earn a lot less.

purplefig · 12/11/2018 21:26

@Slavingerwings can I be nosey and ask what type of writing you do? Do you have a niche?

youdialwetile · 12/11/2018 21:27

24k as a tutor. Love it. Make my own schedule, pick my own clients, can teach online from home. I have busy times throughout the year but I take most of the summer off, as well as other school breaks.

Slavingerwings · 12/11/2018 21:28

purple - of course you can! The reason I posted really was because a lot of people think you can't earn a living from writing, but you can. I'm a ghostwriter.

SunlightComingThroughTheHaze · 12/11/2018 21:29

This embarassment around discussing wages is one reason for the gender pay gap and a way companies get away with paying shit wages. It’s a good thing to learn what other jobs pay in different sectors and what you can realistically achieve. I can’t stand this odd awkwardness around discussing salaries in this country.

TimeWoundsAllHeals · 12/11/2018 21:34

I don’t work so £0 but the median gross full time wage is almost £30k.

pickleface · 12/11/2018 21:40

Around 28k
Self employed in 2 jobs:tutor and copywriter.
Also a full time masters student.
I just don't sleep Confused

Pikehau · 12/11/2018 21:46

About 100k. Finance. I do enjoy it. Ut was thinking about moving roles. Work full time and have a medium sized team to manage.
Our gender pay gap at work is due to fewer woman in senior positions. Lower than me the pay gap is negligible.

buttybuttybutthole · 12/11/2018 21:46

I'm actually surprised how low the wages are but then again I guess it's mainly women answering.

Ask men of the same demographic, the numbers will be depressingly higher.

Pompom42 · 12/11/2018 21:51

Work 3 days per week earn £30,000 per year. Hate my job though, it's not so much my job but the people that work there. Best thing is I don't work Mondays or Fridays.

bbcessex · 12/11/2018 21:54

PolarBear.. there’s a very wide range on this thread. You shouldn’t find it impossible to believe that women, and women on MN, can earn top salaries.

I’m a director in Financial Services technology. I earn £120k basic plus pension / insurance / other benefits plus up to 45% bonus depending mainly on division & company revenue rather than performance. I travel globally and work from home 1 or 2 days a week.

I’m in the South East. Technology & Financial Services are extremely well paid if you have the right skill set.

Done this for 25 years and continue to Love my job.

Smiler88 · 12/11/2018 21:59

@bbcessex do you mind if I ask what skill sets those are? (Broadly!) Sounds very a interesting and well paid career!

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 22:05

Self employed truck driver earning circa £35k (which will go up to £40-£45k when I get my arctic license). Many earn peanuts in this job but there's high demand atm so one can be choosy about who they work for.

Was a sales manager previously on similar salary but with lots more corporate bullshit and stress.

Asthenia · 12/11/2018 22:07

£16.5k. Work in admin/publishing in central London full time. Shockingly low wage and desperately trying to get out!

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 22:08

I'm actually surprised how low the wages are but then again I guess it's mainly women answering.

I thought women earned more up until 35-40 yo? (has certainly been my own anecdotal experience).

StrongTeaDropOfMilkNoSugar · 12/11/2018 22:10

£89k plus share grants.

I lead resourcing for the warehousing/logistics arm of a retailer.

Do I enjoy it? Difficult to say. I’m constantly stressed, work 60-70 hours a week, have no work life balance, and suffer majorly from imposter syndrome. On the flip side, I am NEVER bored, it’s often pretty exciting, and at the end of our peak season I am so proud of my team and their achievements.

I often think I love to retrain to be a counsellor/therapist, but would probably miss the buzz of what I do now.

oldermum1960s · 12/11/2018 22:12

between £350k and £450k . Owner of my own business. Started with nothing and it just became successful over the years.
