To wonder if I’m the only person in the UK who washes their own car?

This is lighthearted I’m not knocking anyone who gets their car washed but I’m wondering if anyone washes their own car these days?
I wash my car once a week simply because I’ve always enjoyed doing so, I find it quite relaxing, gives me time to tune out.
However, no one in my road washes their own cars. I’m a dog walker, I am always walking around various villages and I can’t recall the last time I saw anyone doing so.
Should I be contacting The Guinness World Records and entering myself as the last surviving diy car washer. Or are there any fellow washers out there, somewhere, anywhere???

I too don't wash my car - and nor does a car wash. I just wait for rain! Smile

The rain is the only thing that cleans mine Grin

I wash my own car...

Sometimes i do, but i cant park outside my house so awkward unless i visit my mum who has a drive.

DevonCherry · 12/11/2018 17:16

I quite like doing it and it doesn't take long, but I don't do it very often - once or twice a year! I might get it professionally washed once a year too - or the garage do it when it's serviced. But I agree - passers by always make comments like "You do know they'll do it for you at the top of the road for a tenner?".
People are free to spend their money how they want, but I can think of better things to spend a tenner on than getting my car washed when it only takes me half an hour to DIY.

I must admit, I take it to my local car wash and they do the inside and outside immaculately for £10. I hate doing it myself and they do a better job

Our car gets washed very rarely -it's rainy here and we don't care how shiny it is. A couple of people on our road wash their already spotless cas thoroughly every Sunday afternoon. Every time I see them with their bucket and sponge it gives me the Sunday blues!

girlandboy · 12/11/2018 17:26

My DH does it and has wondered the same thing. I can now tell him that he's not on his own 😊

jelliebelly · 12/11/2018 17:27

Life is too short to spend it cleaning a car (same goes for ironing!)

bigbluebus · 12/11/2018 17:29

Everyone on my street has a clean car but no one is ever out on the drive washing their cars so I guess, that like me, they take it to the car wash 1 mile away where a team of chaps do a very speedy but thorough job of washing and drying cars (including door sills) for £5. Not really worth me getting everything out to do it myself at home for that price.

I did see the teenager down the road washing 3 cars on his drive the other day - I assumed he was trying to earn some extra cash from his parents as I've not seen him do it before

So OP, you probably are the only person who still regularly washes their own car!

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2018 17:41

Same goes for oven cleaning. I dont care about Oven Pride I just get a man in once a year.

anniehm · 12/11/2018 17:46

Not me, they charge me £10 to wash and vacuum a few times a year, I tip them £5 because of the dog hair, I'm happy for them to do it - we do vacuum before trips sometimes though as dog hair is bad!

I now clean my own car. However only very rarely as I hate doing it and don’t have a drive.

I used to pay to have it done, however I then had a patient who worked at the local car wash. He was basically trafficked and paid £10 a day to clean cars for 10 + hours, whilst quite clearly psychotic. I feel too guilty to risk funding that kind of set up again.

bengalcat · 12/11/2018 18:08

I've never washed my car - now 17 years old - I find the rain does a sterling job of it

abacucat · 15/11/2018 13:00

Yes I wash my own car.
