Posting here for traffic. DS, a very articulate 9 year old said to me recently that he thinks there is no longer a problem in this country with discrimination- sexism was the topic of conversation at the time. DD (11) doesn't see how YouTube makeup & fashion videos are perpetuating the idea that women have to look a certain way to be attractive an acceptable. I'm concerned her self worth is being skewed & will be tied up with appearance & needing approval from men. I don't want to get into a battle & ban her from watching such things (I doubt I would win) but I am keen to help her to develop some critical thinking.
I wonder if any mumsnetters have any recommendations for books, stories, films, YouTube stuff or anything else that might help both DS & DD to think about their values with regard to gender equality & stereotypes.
