Why are people so precious about little girl curls?!

Semi light hearted Grin
My daughter has lovely curls. The kind that are commented on wherever we go. Everyone loves the curls.

Every morning there is the battle of the curl. By this I mean her hair is like candy floss when she gets up. Then we have the tussle of detangling spray, a wide tooth comb and inching my way through it all, to the chorus of “mummy stop!”. Yes, I have researched and tried many shampoos/conditioners and sprays. I have tried only washing her hair when absolutely needed.

Her hair is much better and easier when I give it a little trim every now and then. Family and friends are genuinely offended when her hair is cut.
“How could you cut her lovely curls?!”
“Why on earth would you cut those curls!”
“Her hair is too short!”

Now my daughter has never had long hair, it just doesn’t grow. So she sports a curly bob that gets neatened up. When cut, the curls bounce beautifully and our lives are peaceful for a while.

Why are people so affronted by cutting her hair?! What is it about curls?! Why does she need to have long hair?

For full disclosure she is 3 years old and has zero opinion on her hair or length of it Grin

Thanks Ollivander, doing most of that but will add the olive oil. Your hair looks great!

My daughter has lovely curls. She is 9 now and her hair is quite long. She had a curly bob when she was 3 ☺️. We have the whole battle situation when it comes to brushing it 😫. She says I’m mean. Sometimes I’ll put a mask on her hair and a heated wraparound towel. She sleeps in it and we wash it out in the morning but your daughter is too young I’d think atm. I never brush it dry and always use a detangling spray. I’ve found some brushes work better than others so I’d try out a range. I love my daughters hair, I feel like it’s ‘her’ if that makes sense. She’s really good at being polite and saying thank you when people comment now. The wind is in her hair here so a bit knotty 💨

Oh and she has it cut regularly. Need to keep it healthy.

DS1 has red ringlets, and gets fawned over by older ladies telling him people pay good money for hair like that. Though, when his old preschool had an ongoing nit epidemic we buzzcut the lot (with much granny/nanny upset) as that hair type is impossible to nit-comb without full cooperation. He likes his hair curly, so since then he has been much better about allowing the nit comb.

My daughter has gorgeous curls but she would much rather have straight hair. She's 6!

Both dh and I had curls as children. I straighten the frizz these days!

I think it's because curls are so tactile looking and natural curls are so unusual on western children.

I use a 'wet brush' on her hair or lots of detangler and a wide toothed comb.

That said, I tie her hair up for school but she much prefers it down!

I like curls in boys too.

Our family have curly hair as little children but it gets straighter as we age. I think that's part of it too.

My husband has curly hair, I'm hoping our daughter's hair will be as well. Her hair is so short right now that I have no idea what it will do yet.

I don't like seeing curls cut either, my husband has to keep a couple up top for me. Grin
