To have not left my DH alone in the communal changing rooms

IHeartFood · 10/11/2018 17:36

Went clothes shopping this morning with DH who headed to the changing room to try his clothes on. I hadn't realised it was communal til we saw a girl walking in before us. I was happily about to walk away to have a wonder round the shop when it hit me that this women could easily accuse my DH of anything & without any witnesses it would be his word against his so I decided to stay with him. I did feel abit silly but since the whole Roxanne Pallet/Ryan Thomas thing on BB I'm just more aware of these types of situations.

WIBU?

You think we are the ones overthinking this? Really Confused

slashlover · 10/11/2018 19:03

Even if she did say that then it would be you and your husbands word against hers. You would be a witness but not exactly an impartial one.

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 19:09

There is no such thing as a communal changing area, there are individual cubicles that could be occupied by either sex. It is a shop, the chances of a male attacking a female in this environment are surely remote to zero.

I am actually slightly disturbed by this thread and wonder if it is one of those weird ones that have been doing the rounds. If it isn't, you need to seek help.

Nothisispatrick · 10/11/2018 19:13

If it was no big deal and you made a judgement call in the moment, why then come on here and ask if YABU?

Ginseng1 · 10/11/2018 19:15

Yabu & ever so slightly crazy. Does your Dh never ever be alone with any female other than yourself then?!

Purplejay · 10/11/2018 19:18

To think that way is bonkers OP.

What did your husband make of it?

Does he never shop alone?

MrsTerryPratcett · 10/11/2018 19:21

Statistically he is much more likely to BE a rapist. He is also more likely to be raped by another man.

I'm guessing that wouldn't cross you mind. It's only those evil, lying women lurking on every corner who don't know you or your DH, have absolutely no reason to lie, have no motive and wouldn't gain from it.

Internalised misogyny is really pervasive.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 10/11/2018 19:23

Look it’s rare for women to falsely accuse men of rape/sexual assault in court. It’s more much much more likely for men to commit rape/sexual assault and not be convicted or even reach court.

Cheeeeislifenow · 10/11/2018 19:27

Is your husband Mike Pence?!

LondonElle · 10/11/2018 19:29

Very hysterical and bizarre reaction....

Belindabauer · 10/11/2018 19:30

Can you clarify, when you say communal you don't mean one big room in which Every one has to get changed do you?

Orlande · 10/11/2018 19:39

I've literally never worried about my DP sexually assaulting someone if I'm not supervising him Confused

wrenika · 10/11/2018 19:45

I think your gut instinct was sensible. Men are incredibly vulnerable to women claiming assault, especially in a scenario like that. No matter how unlikely it is he cross paths with someone who makes false claims, I'd still be worried if it was my partner.

FermatsTheorem · 10/11/2018 19:48

Is your husband Mike Pence?!

Grin

So long as OP isn't Mrs. Kavanaugh!

MrMeSeeks · 10/11/2018 19:49

I dont think we’re the ones overthinking this.

MrsTerryPratcett · 10/11/2018 19:50

No matter how unlikely

True. I frequently rub shark repellent over DH when he swims in our local pool. No matter how unlikely, a shark attack would be awful.

He's more likely to be raped by a man than falsely accused by a woman.

IHeartFood · 10/11/2018 19:51

Just to confirm I didn't walk into the shop wearing combats, night vision googling & spying on every female like a ninja expecting them to go round making false accusations. Given how quiet the store was, no staff about & the communal changing rooms I just let my niggle get the better of me. On reflection I did over think the situation but generally in life I go by better safe than sorry. I don't use changing rooms as I prefer to try on at home but it has made me realise that I don't like communal changing rooms.

Fyi - My husband is not a "sexual predator" so I knew she completely safe.

Thankyou wrenika. I'm surprised how many people are jumping to the conclusion that my DH is some sort of predator. It was an isolated occasion. I don't go around worried my DH will get falsely accused. I knew she was safe as my DH is a lovely man I just felt in the moment the situation left him vulnerable. Xx

StripySocksAndDocs · 10/11/2018 20:05

Why do you think a women would falsely accuse a man of sexual assault or rape?

Do you think it's because she's craving being put through a humiliating process? Or maybe it's having her private life pulled apart and sexual history critiqued? Or being locally bad mouthed and or hunted on the internet?

Though it might be disappointing for her her accusation probably won't get that far.

MrsTerryPratcett · 10/11/2018 20:11

Once more with feeling. He is more likely to be raped by another man. Do you worry about this?

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/11/2018 20:17

I note the only person agreeing with op is also the one who thinks that men should be allowed in the women's changing room and the man's the vulnerable one Hmm

IHeartFood · 10/11/2018 20:19

I don't worry about him being raped by a man just like I don't worry he'll burn himself when he makes a brew or he'll fall if he walks down some steps. I don't walk round thinking every situation is a potential hazard. But imagine your loved one is in a vulnerable situation & a moment of possible over thinking would put your mind at rest surely you would do whatever no matter how silly it felt.

My actions did no harm. I didn't scream & shout accusations at the girl. I just felt my DH was vulnerable so hung about. No fiss made.

*fuss

OP posts:
Belindabauer · 10/11/2018 20:21

Well if you don't use communal changing rooms, why does your dh?
And again, both you and he are more likely to be sexually assaulted by a man than to be falsely accused of doing it.

IHeartFood · 10/11/2018 20:27

Belindbauer - I didn't specify I don't use communal. I said I don't use any changing rooms as I prefer to try on at home. To be fair my DH doesn't normally try on as he prefers to buy off the hanger & return if needed however as we had time to kill he quickly tried on. X
