I’m quite enjoying the desperation of Martin Freeman

In the new Vodafone ice skating ad.

He does a random ice skating performance, cheesier than owt you’d see on Dancing on Ice.

I always thought he came across as a bit of a knob, and my friend worked as a runner years back for Sherlock and said he was rude to nearly everybody, had it was known that he just not a ‘people person ’.

I always thought he wanted to be a serious actOR so maybe he just really needs the money right now.

I heard he eats babies.

LasMeninas · 10/11/2018 18:08

I really liked him in Fargo season 1 though

KM99 · 10/11/2018 18:09

OzzyMadBat my bad, you are right. I was getting my actors confused.

ReanimatedSGB correct, OP was just being snarky. So they are getting some snark back. Seems fair, no?

I'd fight anyone who tried to surpress OP from speculating or expressing a harmless opinion. That's their right. Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with it or not challenge it.

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 10/11/2018 18:13

I’m worked with him a very, very, very long time ago and he was quite nice then. Extremely dry, sarcastic humour though, which didn’t always come over the way he meant.
However he’s since become a superstar and that tends to have a bad effect on people. He’s probably three dogs in an overcoat now! 😆

RadicalFern · 10/11/2018 18:15

You either die young, or live long enough to become three dogs in an overcoat.

TatterdemalionAspie · 10/11/2018 18:17

Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with it or not challenge it.

@KM99 do you mean Doesn't mean I'm not going to come out with some absolute bollocks, and then, when challenged on its accuracy, spew the annoying, nonsensical americanism "my bad"?

Interview - I can't decide on whether I would get on with him irl or not. I do swear quite a bit. He hates fame by the sounds of it and doesn't feel the need to pretend otherwise.

SandyDrawsBadly · 10/11/2018 18:23

I didn’t realise that Martin Freeman was such a national treasure that no one can suggest that he’s an arse.

All hail Martin Freeman, the quite possibly terribly nice bloke, apart from the people who e met him and found him to be a bit of a knob.

40 seconds in - not an eyeroll but a black look that I can still relate to Grin

Petalflowers · 10/11/2018 18:25

Merrican - brill!

LucilleBluth · 10/11/2018 18:26

The poster who's mum's cousins cat was at a wedding with him will be along soon. Apparently no one was allowed to speak to him.

The adverts are shit bit he's a fine actor.

OzzyMadBat · 10/11/2018 18:32

I wouldn't knock him for doing ads - I would imagine his attitude is that if someone wants to pay him stupid money for not much work then he'll take it so he can be fussier with the actual roles he chooses.
Kevin Bacon, James Corden, Robert Mitchell, they all do it. The trick is to do them in Japan like the Hollywood lot do.

OzzyMadBat · 10/11/2018 18:32

David Mitchell dammit.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/11/2018 18:40

I have a friend who used to work for him and his wife and she loathes him. I have never ever seen such hatred for a person, and she was over the moon when his wife left him as she said he treated her like shit and wasnt particularly nice to the kids either.

emmcan · 10/11/2018 18:44

@HarrietKettleWasHere Okay, you are a top agent representing some big-name celebs. Bitching on MN about Martin Freeman isn't going to get you the arse-end-of-the-donkey for Sue Pollard at Grimsby auditorium panto...

onalongsabbatical · 10/11/2018 18:47

You thought the point of celebrity was that you speculate about famous people? There's so much wrong with that that I don't know where to start. Yes I do.
People are famous (mostly) because they've done something big, whether in politics, sport, the arts, whatever. They get well-known. That was the original meaning of 'celebrity'. You speculating about them is way down the list of the point of anything.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/11/2018 18:47

emcam I have no idea what you’re on about Confused

Rudgie47 · 10/11/2018 18:51

I wouldn't say he was a fine actor, I'd say he was just bog standard and very bland.

KM99 · 10/11/2018 18:52

Is that really the best you have TatterdemalionAspie? I made an error, I owned up to it. I clearly expressed multiple times OP is within their rights to have an opinion. Grow up.

KM99 · 10/11/2018 18:54

Oh and well done on insulting the American MN users, TatterdemalionAspie

CoughLaughFart · 10/11/2018 18:54

Ad campaigns pay ridiculous money. I doubt George Clooney is on his uppers, but he still flogs coffee in between episodes of Corrie.

Ravenesque · 10/11/2018 18:55

I know someone who does makeup on films and he does have an awful reputation. I can't recall others who do, but I really dislike Tom Cruise mostly because of the whole scientology thing, but his face has always annoyed me - I'm sure this would break him if only he knew (yes, sarcasm ) - and she worked on that film where he was a German who tried to murder Hitler, or something. Anyway, waiting to hear what a shit he was, turns out he was one of the nicest people she's worked with in the film world. Knew everyone's names, lovely gifts when they wrapped, kind, warm, blah. The utter bastard!

Avegemitesandwich · 10/11/2018 18:55

Big slebs do do cheesy ads though. What about Kevin Bacon doing EE, Lionel Ritchie doing Walkers and yer man doing the insurance ads? They can't all be that desperate for money can they?

KurriKurri · 10/11/2018 18:56

I think as he ages, he is slowly morphing into Alan Sugar. (Facially that is - I don't think he is taking over Amstrad)
