. . . to spend £450 on a hair curler?

RedPandaFluff · 09/11/2018 20:22

Maybe someone needs to talk me off the ledge I seem to have found myself on.

The Dyson Airwrap. Looks magical. I covet the curls. And Currys has it in stock, so I'm sitting here clutching my debit card with sweaty hands. But £450 for the complete version . . . ouch.

It's not an issue financially, nothing will suffer - no kids, just two high-maintenance (but ungrateful) cats and even then their special grain-free diet won't be compromised.

But really. £450. Am I crazy?

Looooook . . .

If you buy it from boots this weekend you get extra points x

RedPandaFluff · 10/11/2018 12:29

I'd definitely do that, @SimplyPut, except they don't have the Complete option, which is the one I'd go for.

Do you think it will go down in price, @MicroManaged? The Dyson hairdryer didn't, as far as I know, which makes me think this won't reduce either 😔

That's a pity.

GinandGingerBeer · 10/11/2018 13:00

I'd love to try one. Might see if our JL has a demo one, they have a dyson bar

chocolatecoveredraisons · 10/11/2018 15:02

They won't reduce. Not for a while or until s new product comes out. I am trying and will send back if I don't 100% love

Loulou0 · 10/11/2018 15:31

I got mine from qvc. I can pay in 4 instalments and can return it if I don't like it.

I've tried it a couple of times and I like it. Need to practice a bit more though before I decide if it was worth it.

Lionsandtiger · 10/11/2018 15:45

Buy a ghd creative curl wand instead. Cost about £90, I love mine and use it two or three times a week. The curls come out better than the Dyson imo and as long as you use some heat protector hair stays in great condition.

MicroManaged · 10/11/2018 17:50

I think they’ll reduce based on past curling machines (rather than this particular brands other products).

There’ve been a few automatic curler things in the past 5 years and contrary to what every one of them looks like, they usually still require a bit of skill/practice to get decent curls...and people lose interest and realise that the machine doesn’t actually do it for you...and they get reduced.

I hope someone remembers and can bump this thread in a few months...my prediction is £300 by August. Or at the very least they would have been on sale for that, somewhere, by then Smile

poppyseed2 · 12/11/2018 16:37

I went to John Lewis today and had a demo. Soooooo tempted Blush

RedPandaFluff · 12/11/2018 16:59

Really, @poppyseed2 ? It was good? I've put off buying it because I either want the Complete set from Boots when it's on the points offer or from Dyson for the 35-day return.

It's calling me from Curry's, though 😬

I want one but I've watched a few YouTube reviews and they're a mixed bag plus i dont have £450 going spare

I now have my eye on the Revlon One Step Dryer and Volumiser as the reviews for it seem to all be really good.

poppyseed2 · 12/11/2018 19:55

@RedPandaFluff Yes, I'm mostly interested in smoothing, but she also did curls. I was kind of hoping to be disappointed, but think I need to add one to my Christmas list!

HabbyHadno · 17/11/2018 21:00

I took mine back yesterday because it was shit. Nadine Baggott has just done a YouTube review of it and all the points she raises I 100% agree with. Give it a watch if you're tempted.

Treaclepie19 · 17/11/2018 21:27

Now I want one! Except I want the straightening one... my hair is unruly. It takes about an hour to dry and straighten.

pinksplutterweasel · 18/11/2018 00:33

Do it. My husband bought me one for our wedding anniversary. I am crap doing hair but...the blond is me and the brunette is my daughter. These pics show the first and second time I used it. Takes under half hour to do a full head.

Agggghh. Stop tempting me @pink. Your hair looks lovely. Smile

animallikeyou · 18/11/2018 15:56

I would go for it!

Does your hubby not get a discount with working for Dyson?

RedPandaFluff · 23/11/2018 08:58

Dammit. I knew it. It's not on sale anywhere 😒

I used mine for the first time today and it is magic Shock My very long, thick, curly hair was tamed into loose locks in 15 minutes. It is extraordinary.

I'm never going to the hairdresser again.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2018 01:02

Yep total magic. Bought it last week, hair ridiculously shiny considering I'm highlighted blonde.

I have hair like described above, a fine bob. The curls look amazing, the straightening brush makes my hair look all straight and edgy, the volumiser brush gives me huge bounce.

Best thing I ever bought. No exaggeration, hair perfect every day.

It takes me 4 minutes to dry my hair and 3 minutes to curl it. It took me bloody 15 minutes to just dry it with my last hairdryer!

kmc1111 · 01/12/2018 01:44

Do it! It’s amazing.

You do have to pay attention to the instructions though. They’re simple enough but a bit different from how you’d use a regular wand curler. Most of the bad reviews are coming from people who clearly ignored them.

FullMetalRabbit · 01/12/2018 06:14

I went to the dyson shop last weekend and had a free 30 minute demo with the stylist - she even washed my hair first and showed me how wet/dry it needs to be. She did most of it and then I did the last few - 3 days later the curls were still there and I have dead straight hair.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/12/2018 06:34

I read somewhere that the good reviews were all written by people given freebies. This thread has made me rethink that and I am back to wanting one now.

NotTheChef · 01/12/2018 06:46

Not sure if anyone has said but boots will allow you to return is up to 35 days later.
They have a points offer in this weekend for £10 poiunts for £60 spent. I got over £60 of point for mine 😊

Sitranced · 01/12/2018 08:47

You'd have to use it every single day for 18 months to make it less than a pound per use just to have curly hair. That's not financially viable to me.
