. . . to spend £450 on a hair curler?

RedPandaFluff · 09/11/2018 20:22

Maybe someone needs to talk me off the ledge I seem to have found myself on.

The Dyson Airwrap. Looks magical. I covet the curls. And Currys has it in stock, so I'm sitting here clutching my debit card with sweaty hands. But £450 for the complete version . . . ouch.

It's not an issue financially, nothing will suffer - no kids, just two high-maintenance (but ungrateful) cats and even then their special grain-free diet won't be compromised.

But really. £450. Am I crazy?

Looooook . . .

I'm sorry but what a ridiculous price for a ridiculous item. What is the world coming to?!???????????

Neverender · 09/11/2018 22:26

And I say that as someone who could just buy one. Wtf?! £450?!

HabbyHadno · 09/11/2018 22:26

I have one. It's not worth the money - sorry!

Noloudnoises · 09/11/2018 22:38

It's £399 in selfridges and at the end of November they usually have 20%off across the store.... I NEEEEED one...

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 09/11/2018 23:00

I am very, very tempted.... let me know how you get on if you do give in....

Pretenditsaplan · 09/11/2018 23:49

I was put off by grav3yards girls review on youtube she loved the dyson hairdryer (she pretty much collects hair dryers so high praise). It wasnt simple and easy and by the time shed finished her hair itd started to fall out. I definatly think you needs to try it for yourself.

Iamneverfull · 10/11/2018 00:02

I work somewhere where we can use one and I have never ever been so ready to give my money over! It looks like we have had the best and fastest blow dry ever. You need it and its an investment etc. Its also good for your hair!

Musicforsnorks · 10/11/2018 02:37

I just wouldn’t, and I am always on the look out for the miracle de-frizzing straightening holy grail.
I’m just not seeing anything miracle worthy in any review that justifies this cynical price tag.

Great marketing though; if you price it so high people will believe it MUST be revolutionary. Just another case of exploiting women’s desperation to have the perfect styling product that doesn’t damage hair.

When it exists, I still don’t believe £500 would justify it.
In a similar vein I passed up the stem pod too. All of these products still don’t properly catch the roots of hair and still leave the ends looking dry.

What we need is for frizz to get on trend 😄

penisbeakers · 10/11/2018 02:50

That is a fucking ridiculous amount of money to spend on a hair tool. Jesus no don't spend that!

Alexandra2018 · 10/11/2018 03:07

If you can afford it why not👍🏻👍🏻

chocolatecoveredraisons · 10/11/2018 03:59

I wear my hair everyday. For me £450 is not so much when you think about what the product does.

People don't seem to have issues buying designer handbags etc but are outraged by spending so much on something that gets worn everyday. If it does what the reviews say it does, then money well spent.

I will reiterate again- you wear your hair EVERYDAY

penisbeakers · 10/11/2018 04:07

I wouldn't buy a designer anything. I'm only a poor working class scrote. If I had £450 I certainly wouldn't spend it on a hairdryer!

Whatsnewwithyou · 10/11/2018 04:47

Does anyone know how this compares to a babyliss big hair? Because I hated that.

ForFiveMinutes · 10/11/2018 07:15

tomatoes I find both the hair drier and the styling brushes (round or flat) are fine to just dry my hair with plenty of volume. I bought the full set so I could have smooth or curly.

FabulousTomatoes · 10/11/2018 07:57

Thanks forfiveminutes!

poppyseed2 · 10/11/2018 08:15

I would love one, but putting me off is the thought I will then have rendered my £300 dyson hairdryer redundant

FabulousTomatoes · 10/11/2018 08:57

Poppyseed I’m trying to get to the bottom of whether the hairdryer on the curler is as good and powerful as the one on the styler; there could be a case to own both! Wink

FabulousTomatoes · 10/11/2018 08:58

Sorry that made absolutely no sense; I meant whether the hairdryer on the curler is as good as the original!

ceeveebee · 10/11/2018 09:01

I was talking to my hairdresser about this yesterday, apparently unless your hair is almost dry it is too heavy to be picked up by the airflow, but the curling action only works if your hair is wet! So seems like it’s a flawed design and wouldn’t waste your money.

notmyfinest · 10/11/2018 10:03

No help at all but I really want one.

Jimjamjooney · 10/11/2018 11:29

I’m desperate for one! I have chemically straightened hair and the firm smoothing brush looks like it would do a much better job than the current pik attachment on my hairdryer. The bonus is that it mostly uses air to style instead of heat so it shouldn’t break my hair off Grin

The reason it costs so much is because they spent millions designing it and it’s the first of its kind. If you don’t want to spend that much, good for you!

QueenofStella · 10/11/2018 11:44

OP do try it and tell us what you think!

I love my Dyson hairdryer so I’m intrigued to see what this is like...

RedPandaFluff · 10/11/2018 11:48

Aaaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhh I'm still not sure. The non-sponsored reviews ARE very mixed, as PPs have said.

I've never felt such conflicting emotions - deep lust coupled with complete horror that I'm even considering it . . . 😄

MicroManaged · 10/11/2018 11:52

I wouldn’t now op unless money is literally no object.

Like other fancy curler things in recent years, give it 6 months and it will probably be half price.

I have my eye on it too but am thinking more of hint dropping for my birthday in August when it will hopefully be £300 or lower.

tiggerkid · 10/11/2018 12:12

Test it first and then wait for sales. Having said that if it works as shown, makes your life easier and you can afford it, why not?
