To think there's a special place in hell for "YouTube families"

American parents and their squeaky OTT reactions to fuck all. Filming mundane videos of fake days out, fake laughing, toy "reviews", acting out characters and making up shit games etc... I'm sure the kids love it but it seems quite exploitative and very self obsessed on the parents part. Also would you really want to be known as the kid who did all the YouTube videos when he was 7, when you're 17??

Worst offended is the Ryans Toy Review (namely the mum, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard) ahgghhhhg.

We limit our son significantly on the kids YouTube app to keep him away from this drivel and protect my sanity from listening to it!

I have a friend on my FB who has surprised her kids with Disneyland 4 times(!) - all on youtube.

I don't get it. Now it just looks braggy and attention seeking whereas the first time was quite sweet.

nevermorelenore · 09/11/2018 17:42

I do feel sorry for the kids. There was one video where someone had filmed their kid on the potty FFS. Just wait til they get to secondary school and someone Googles their name. It’s like embarrassing baby pictures times a million.

Guacamole2506 · 09/11/2018 17:47

The Ingham family are the worst of them all

Witchofwisteria · 09/11/2018 17:48

@fanfan18 see Facebook (the first time I can understand because you're sharing a special moment with people you know even if it's just Facebook friends, but YouTube is just complete strangers!

Ds was obsessed with the Daily Bumps family....I started dreaming about them and muttering, 'Good Job Buddie...' in my sleep.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 09/11/2018 17:55

It’s just another form of LOOK WE ARE PARENTS LOOK HOW WE PARENT AND FEEL

YADNBU. They need a special lower ground floor in hell for them and the InstaFams too

ChasingGhosts · 09/11/2018 17:56

YADNBU

There's a family in our village with a YouTube following. I find it odd, and intrusive. Even just entering a cafe or shop at the same time as them, you get told where to stand, or they huff and have to retake the shot.

But they live in a huge house, take mountains of holidays, and don't seem to want for anything, so somebody must enjoy it.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 09/11/2018 17:58

You’re shitting me. If anyone told me to move it for that rubbish whilst I’m enjoying my cream horn it’d be pitchfork time.

Orlande · 09/11/2018 17:58

My kids love Ryan but the bloody parents and their "good job Ryan" - ing every time he breathes Angry

I've actually grown to like the FGTeeV family and the way they feed their kids nothing but skittles and nachos off paper plates despite having a massive house and loads of cash now.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 09/11/2018 18:00

I've always wondered about the laws on it and I'm totally ignorant of them but I thought kids could only work so many hours a week legally and they had to also be paid

I think many a child will have significant mental illness in the future from this social media pimping

DowntonCrabby · 09/11/2018 18:01

Each to their own and all that but I’ll put my hand up and say I’m a massive judgy pants on this issue.

canyouhearthedrums · 09/11/2018 18:05

YANBU about the big families (the 'gender reveal' of the Inghams' baby was the most bizarre cross between faux anxiety and faux happiness) but the small families are my guilty pleasure Blush. They slag other families off, compete for the most likes and think that their evening in Asda was 'amazing content' Hmm. None of them seem to work or are self employed and work about 3 hours a week yet go to Disney or other expensive holidays.

Orlande · 09/11/2018 18:07

The kids are basically living in the Truman Show.

YouWereRight · 09/11/2018 18:08

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Mh often greasy hair and no make up look has caused some huffing Grin

Loopytiles · 09/11/2018 18:10

In future there will probably be adult DC seeking legal redress from their parents and the companies for breach of privacy / psychological harm.

nevermorelenore · 09/11/2018 19:10

It wouldn’t surprise me Loopytiles. It has been suggested that kids on YouTube should get the same legal protections that children in professional productions have. I could see today’s YouTube kid stars becoming like the child stars of previous decades who’ve taken their parents to court.

FrightsaidRed · 09/11/2018 19:15

Oh YANBU!!! Mine love Ryan but his mum’s voice just makes me rage. I actually make them watch it with headphones on because it pisses me off so much!

MedicinalGin · 09/11/2018 19:22

I’ve never heard of this at all- is this a Thing? I feel so old right now, I’ve never watched a family on YouTube in my life!

Bananasinpjs123 · 09/11/2018 19:29

My kids like fgteev which was annoying at first but doesn't bother me too much now. But they watch ryan too and I just don't like it but I tolerate it if it means they will be quiet for a bit! No different to the crap we watched as teens. At least it's not swearing and drugs and god knows what else. It d9es annoy me when my kids go oooo can we get that or can we go there. I just say yeah yeah later and then they forget about it

EerieSilence · 09/11/2018 19:32

I refuse to watch videos of children:

  1. messing around with flour etc. in a house
  2. crying because they are getting a new sibling
  3. crying because they are getting a puppy or a kitten
  4. husband/Mum/Dad/wife squeaking because the voice behind the stretched out hand with a phone just told them there will be a baby coming soon
  5. kids shamed for something wrong they've done.

etc. etc.
I became severely allergic to those fake sentimental videos of overhyped joy, surprise or sorrow or whatever crap there is. If you can't enjoy the memory in your brain and feel the need to post a very private moment on the internet, you're a fucking moron and I will not support you with clicks. There are enough idiots who do.

Witchofwisteria · 09/11/2018 21:56

"Good job Ryyyyyyaaannnn"

Son watched a 10 minute video of her dressed as malicifcent with an iron mask on pulling a confetti canon and pretending to trick or treat inside their own house. What a cunt.
