Should I complain?

My 8 year old son told me last night that he was punched in the head by a girl in his class. It happened at the after school club. I asked him what happened and he said he was colouring in and she just came over and punched him four times on the forehead really hard (he demonstrated to me and they were hard punches). He said he told one of the supervisors and she was put on time out for 5 minutes. He was really upset about it last night and was complaining of a headache which obviously worried me. The girl in question quite often hits other classmates and swears quite frequently. She has been diagnosed with ASD so I'm not sure if this is a characteristic of this?

Do you think the school should have told me?

You absolutely should've been told about this incident by school (assuming it is them that run the afterschool club), they should've made you aware of the potential for a head injury. I think it would be worth a call to ask them what happened and why you weren't informed.

Thank you for replying. Yes I will mention it to them. I will give them a ring in a bit.

You definitely should have been told. You can’t expect to know anything about the girl or her punishment though. But yes - call and focus on your son and the fact it’s unacceptable that they didn’t inform you.
