Bastards.

And killed a girl by mislabelling......

drinkygin · 09/11/2018 09:38

Well that escalated quickly

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable · 09/11/2018 09:43

😬

Thiswayorthatway · 09/11/2018 09:43

Pret did not mislabel, they complied with the law and it's the law which needs changing.

BITCAT · 09/11/2018 09:44

2 people have now died due to labelling issues.

BITCAT · 09/11/2018 09:50

The investigation said labelling was inadequate. Its not right regardless of the law that full ingredients should not be included on anything people eat!

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 09:51

It was a failure to label not mislabelling. People with allergies need to be more careful instead of relying on incomplete information. The law reform commission should consider introducing stricter labelling laws. And the girl died to an extent because of misconduct by flight crew. Not labelling stuff does kill people. Undue reliance or refusing medical aid on the other hand does.

Spam88 · 09/11/2018 09:54

Pret are disgusting. I once had tuna stuck to the outside of my ham and cheese panini 🤢

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable · 09/11/2018 09:56

People with allergies need to be more careful instead of relying on incomplete information.

How would she have known it was incomplete?
That's it- people with allergies just shouldn't eat, just incase a company hasn't done their job properly and thoroughly.

Shiklah · 09/11/2018 10:00

I was horrified when I went in a Pret in London and bought a sandwich and was told they were a shop, not a cafe, so had no where I could wash my hands. I asked to return the sandwich as I couldn't eat something with my hands unless I washed them (I'd been on public transport and in a museum handling samples!). The woman serving me looked utterly horrified when I explained and agreed it was disgusting not to have somewhere for people to wash there hands, but it hadn't come up before. So grim - how can people eat a sandwich without washing their hands?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/11/2018 10:01

Yes, that's right, of course people with allergies should Never Eat Out, or go anywhere, or do anything because lazy arsed corporations can't be bothered to label their goods with common allergens. That's PERFECTLY reasonable as a response.

Oh wait, no it isn't.

BITCAT · 09/11/2018 10:02

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable exactly that.
I have to be very careful what i eat..i rely on labels and information on labels.
How am i to know that a company has not included all ingredients on a label.
Its actually scares me that i am reliant on someone else correct and full imformation.
Surely its not that difficult to put all ingredients on a label?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/11/2018 10:02

Shiklah - you could have held the thing in a paper napkin, maybe?

FissionChips · 09/11/2018 10:03

Shiklah, it would be a dream come true for me if cafes and restaurants had a small sink for hand washing, one that isn’t in the toilets.

ourkidmolly · 09/11/2018 10:04

@Shiklah
Honestly if that is all you have to think about you must be living the life of the gods.

HashtagTeamRaven · 09/11/2018 10:05

@Shiklah

Napkin
Anti bacterial wipes/spray/gel
Knife and fork
Wet wipes

Alternatively
Gloves on underground
Cloth over your hand on underground

cuntbridge · 09/11/2018 10:06

@Shiklah is this a joke? Seriously - you need something else to do with your time. Hold
It in a napkin if it's that important to you

Antigon · 09/11/2018 10:06

Shiklah - are you real?

PersonaNonGarter · 09/11/2018 10:06

Well, l guess we’ve moved on from the Popcorn Bar. But it is a big deal to me. I am into Pret.

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable · 09/11/2018 10:07

Bitcat- I can imagine what a struggle that must be...especially now we know that companies just aren't labelling.
I don't have allergies and neither do my children so I haven't been in this position but I cannot imagine my anger if I was that girls parent.

I'm disgusted that someone would say you just 'have to be more careful'.
If companies just printed every single ingredient on the packet- you would be fully informed and able to make a decision to stay safe.

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable · 09/11/2018 10:07

Sorry OP- I escalated your post a bit. Mi agree, it's annoying when a company discontinue something you love!

Shiklah · 09/11/2018 10:08

Yes, I suppose I could have held it in a napkin - I think it's gross not to wash before eating thou. I grew up in a developing country so hand washing is an absolute must to me, it sickens to me to think of touching and eating food without washing first.

Yes, I suppose I do live 'the life of the gods' here in the UK, buying fancy sandwiches and travelling around pursuing my career, and I appreciate it every day. But I would like to wash my hands before eating and think when a cafe charges up to £8 for a sandwich or salad they should provide a sink (and a loo FGS).

mydogisthebest · 09/11/2018 10:10

I love Pret. Only place I go. Just wish everywhere had one. Plus their coffee is only 99p and it tastes a hell of a lot better than the muck served up by Starbucks which costs a couple of pounds.

I also like that they do a lot of food for vegetarians and not just the boring egg sandwich that so many places do.

As to wanting to wash your hands, surely every Pret has a toilet and therefore a sink?

Antigon · 09/11/2018 10:11

I am loyal but now...

Why would you be loyal to a café?

RiverTam · 09/11/2018 10:11

no way, OP - DD loves those popcorn bars!!

Mind you, I have never forgiven them for stopping their lovely zingy still lemonade about 10 years ago.

Shiklah if it's an eat-in Pret, they usually have loos. But really, if you're that fussed, you should carry wipes or gel around with you. And never go to a festival. Or a chippy.
