To be upset at Pret?

Pret a Mange. I am loyal but now...

Pret have discontinued their Popcorn Bars.

Bastards.

OP posts:
ShovingLeopard · 09/11/2018 10:11

Shiklah : gloves on public transport. Hand gel. Job done. No need to go hungry.

I agree that Pret were at fault. People with allergies should not have to ask staff members (who may get it wrong) whether there are allergens in foods. Sesame is a known allergen that can cause anaphylaxis. To include it in a product and not label it was inexcusable.

Shiklah · 09/11/2018 10:12

Goodness me, buying all those things and carrying them to eat a sandwich when I could just use a little soap and wash? It wouldn't occur to me. What a palaver.

Clearly I am in a minority to wash before eating - how bizarre, everyone I know washes their hands regularly! MN is a funny place Grin

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 09/11/2018 10:12

I once brought one of their breakfast muffins - my first thought on biting into was "who ever buys a 2nd one of these?!"

orangefolly · 09/11/2018 10:12

Damn it - I love the popcorn bar! It is one of the only things I like about Pret and there are not one but TWO of the fuckers right outside my office, with precious few other choices Angry

RiverTam · 09/11/2018 10:14

unless you have supressed immunity I'm not sure what you think might happen. Suffice to say I have been eating Pret sandwiches (and others, but I do love a Pret sandwich) for my entire working life (25+ years) and not suffered any ill effects. In London!! Horrors.

RiverTam · 09/11/2018 10:14

their choc bar is really nice, also their bakewell slice.

HairsprayBabe · 09/11/2018 10:16

Sorry about you popcorn bar OP, I have a list as long as my arm of all the lovely food from various places that has been removed from menus over the years!

At least your thread got totally derailed completely in the first post...

Why does everything have to be so serious all the time.. OP wanted to talk about a product she liked being discontinued not about the allergy labelling debate.

Some people are so eager to talk about the most deathly serious things all the time... I don't get it, cheer up for once and don't force your preachy misery on posters who just want to have a light-hearted moan about a food they like being discontinued.

And also don't INSIST that poster label posts "Light Hearted" we in theory are all adults here and if you can't tell what is and isn't appropriate to post on certain threads then you shouldn't be posting at all.

Eliza9917 · 09/11/2018 10:16

Pret have a lot to answer for.

Their hot cheese & ham/cheese & tomato pastries made me fat.

anothernc123 · 09/11/2018 10:18

I LOVE Pret, and I've got a few free items from there before which always makes my day. It's such a great gesture they have!

ReadWriteDraw · 09/11/2018 10:18

I’ve lived in London for twenty years and have never washed my hands before eating!! I always do at home but never when out and am rarely ill. Gloves on the underground? It’s not 1650 and time of the bubonic plague! People sneezing in your face is probably much more of a risk than not washing your hands.

EdisonLightBulb · 09/11/2018 10:19

Our Pret has a loo and hand washing facilities, Leeds, just saying.

Housecoatdiva · 09/11/2018 10:19

"So grim - how can people eat a sandwich without washing their hands?"
Mumsnet is bloody hilarious 😂😂😂

HappilyHarridan · 09/11/2018 10:20

Bitcat if a sandwich had no allergy information on it at all, not even wheat/gluten which it obviously contains, then would you assume it contained no allergens? My understanding is that Pret ‘fresh’ sandwiches have no label at all.

SlackerMum1 · 09/11/2018 10:22

Still very cross that they brought back bang bang chicken wraps only to take them away again a month later.... it was very upsetting... 😩... am now being grudgingly won back over cos the Christmas sandwiches are in. But not sure I can deal with the loss again come January....

easyandy101 · 09/11/2018 10:23

OP I felt the same when they killed off the pecan slice but it eventually returned!

easyandy101 · 09/11/2018 10:23

Maybe should have gone for a different turn off phrase given the direction of the thread

Tinty · 09/11/2018 10:23

Pret did not mislabel, they complied with the law and it's the law which needs changing.

The second person who died, ate a sandwich from Pret labelled as dairy free. She died from a dairy allergy. It had dairy in it.

covilha · 09/11/2018 10:25

Shiklah: Why not carry a small packet of wipes in your bag? When the kids were younger, I got into the habit of doing this.

Plessis · 09/11/2018 10:25

I don't think I've ever washed my hands if eating a sandwich on the go!

BedsideCabinetisnotavailable · 09/11/2018 10:25

Hairspray- my fault totally for derailing! I was reading a bit about the young girl yesterday and it popped into my head when I read OP's post.

Apologies, I know it was meant to be lighthearted.

Interesting though, to see those that are out of companies by this kind of thing and those that aren't.

And the hand washing thing....🤔

costacoffeecup · 09/11/2018 10:25

I don't know one person who would think to go and wash their hands before grabbing a takeaway sandwich at lunchtime. Mind boggling.

Plessis · 09/11/2018 10:25

easyandy101 that made me laugh (sorry!)

easyandy101 · 09/11/2018 10:29

You're all being pretty horrible about the hand washing thing tbh

DoingMyBest2010 · 09/11/2018 10:31

i worked in London for 20+ years and carried an anti-bac handgel with me, in snot-season I'd wear gloves on train/tube. Not rocket science.

StormTreader · 09/11/2018 10:34

"The woman serving me looked utterly horrified when I explained "

Yeah, that'll be why she looked shocked, definitely....Grin
