To think Yodel are absolute garbage?

Hi all,

I was due to have a cot delivered today by Yodel, only to be told via online tracking that the package had been left with a neighbour, which was written down as 'hotel'.

I live next door to a hotel so assumed they had it. I went over and asked and was told they hadn't had any packages. I rang Yodel and was again assured that the package had been left at a hotel and been signed for by someone called 'Jackie'. I again asked the hotel only to be told that they didn't even have anyone named Jackie working there!

Cue me going on a wild goose chase, asking neighbours and nearby shops if they'd had any packages left there. I even rang and checked with other hotels in my town just in case the driver had gotten lost or confused. No luck.

I've rang Yodel yet again and they are going to ask the driver to provide a description of this 'Jackie' and the street the package was delivered to. But I'm not particularly hopeful.

I am beyond annoyed! £200 down the drain.

We had exactly the same deal with yodel, they are beyond awful. If they tell you they will call back they won't. Get the name of everyone you speak to and get in contact with the company you bought the cot from as they will likely have the same issue with other customers. Mothercare sent out the same order again (still with yodel ffs) and claimed the money back from them.

CobaltRose96 · 08/11/2018 15:00

@Bobbiepin, the cot was from Mothercare. I was told I'd get a call back within 24 hours but I very much doubt it.

Nowhere on my address does it indicate I live next to a hotel, so the driver surely must have been in the area and seen I live near a hotel to know to put 'left at hotel' on the online delivery note. So either the hotel is lying or the driver is. So bloody annoying!

Almost the exact same thing happened to me- I ordered a parcel that was supposed to be delivered by Yodel to a pick-up address (a local shop).
I received an email to say that the package had been delivered but there was no sign of the package at the shop and they said that had not received any packages recently. I emailed Yodel to ask what had happened and the driver had faked my signature (it bore no resemblance to my signature!) on a form so Yodel said that it was my word against theirs!! that was despite the shop also confirming that they had not received it.

I think they are definitely the worst delivery company and I was actually surprised then I received another parcel from them for Dorothy Perkins last week and didn't have a problem- I guess some of the drivers just know they can get away with stealing parcels!

PJBanana · 08/11/2018 15:29

Definitely the worst courier out there. I actually work for a large retailer and we use Yodel to deliver certain items - we get so many complaints about them!

I tried to track a parcel using their website the other week, and it told me for three consecutive days that they’d tried to deliver it but I wasn’t in. Except I was Hmm

As an aside, a Yodel delivery driver literally drifted across the road on my housing estate and nearly crashed head on into me the other day. He was looking at his phone Angry

CobaltRose96 · 08/11/2018 16:41

So I've rang pretty much every hotel and business in the area. Safe to say my package has well and truly poofed.

Mothercare will send you a new one and charge it back to Yodal. I’ve had numerous issues with missing or damaged parcels, always had a replacement sent. It’s just so bloody annoying, I feel your frustration.

Finfintytint · 08/11/2018 17:00

If I know an item will be delivered by Yodel then I don’t order. One driver left my package in the village with a neighbour on a different street altogether. The neighbour was thankfully honest and asked around to find us.
OP, your contract is with Mothercare so they will need to replace and charge Yodel.

NewBabyNoName · 08/11/2018 17:10

I think it depends on the driver, Yodel have improved here significantly over recent years and are very reliable.

However, as someone else has said your contract is with Mothercare so take it up with them, it is their responsibility to sort out with Yodel, not yours. I wouldn't do any further chasing.

Amanduh · 08/11/2018 17:13

I’ve worked for a company using yodel and hermes for delivery. Both awful. Constantly lost parcels, disappearing, left in places that don’t exist... we never hear about them and that’s that. Beyond crap.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/11/2018 17:23

I have one reliable Yodel driver, today he is my favourite as he just delivered a case of wine!

But he KNOWS I am onto his stand in as a while back a case went missing (does Russell Harty airquotes) and when Reliable Guy came with the replacement I walked him round the house, showed him the front door (it sort of looks like it belongs to a different house) , the wash house, the porch and the wood shed AND the number on the wall... so Yodel now know they have no excuse to never leave my parcels!

Figural · 08/11/2018 17:24

I've had crap from Yodel in the past, but not for several years now. I've been in three different properties recently (two my own, and the one in the middle rented) and have had good service from Yodel, and DPD, every time for around five years. Even ParcelForce have got up to scratch now, from a very low level. I'm disabled and shop online for everything now.

I follow their tracking and it always horrifies me that Yodel drivers have to deliver well over 100 parcels each day. The number given for my last parcel was that it was no. 52 on the route, from 115 deliveries. I don't know how that compares with other companies, but the one time I had as chance to mention it to the driver, he was polite and thanked me for mentioning it, but was in too much of a hurry to say anything else.

I wonder how much it depends on the actual driver, and whether they can actually stand up to that kind of pressure. I also wonder how high their driver turnover is.

Maybe problems reflect quality of management and organisation as well.

0lgaDaPolga · 08/11/2018 17:25

They are awful. I bought something on eBay recently and they used yodel to send it. Yodel delivered it to the wrong address but as it was tracking as ‘delivered’ the eBay seller wouldn’t refund me. I was fuming. Luckily it only cost me about £20 so not the be all and end all. I’ll make sure I’ll never buy anything off a seller that uses yodel again. Mothercare should refund you though.

silverlace · 08/11/2018 17:51

I know it sounds odd but check the hotel again but ask the chef. I had a package delivered to a nearby hotel by a useless courier. After calling reception and getting no joy I tried the kitchen as that is where deliveries go and lo and behold my shoes were in the head chef's office. Perfectly addressed to me so no idea why the courier delivered them there.

CupoBlood · 08/11/2018 17:54

You need to reply this to mothercare if you haven't already

Bobbiepin · 08/11/2018 19:20

You won't get a call back, I'd put money on it. Getting on to mothercare is your best bet and put in a formal complaint with them in the hopes that if enough people do it they'll change couriers.

JennyHolzersGhost · 08/11/2018 19:36

Try Hermes. They think it’s perfectly acceptable to leave parcels in a full rubbish bin on top of a pile of stinking rubbish. Disgusting business.
