Does everyone on MN - except me - have a high flying highly paid highly stressful job

Is anyone a hairdresser married to a mechanic? Nursery nurse married to a delivery driver?

I keep reading about women having to go back to work or they'll fall off the career ladder and never recover. Everyone seems so BUSY and STRESSED and high flying. Or they've burnt out and have downsized so they can bake bread.

Is anyone else just pootling along like me - not setting the world alight with their brilliance and ambition?

I also agree that because a job is low paid doesn't mean it is less stressful.
I swapped a City job with a big employer for a local job with a small family company. I earn half what I did (but have no commute and apparently shorter hours) but the stress is so much more - I don't have the support I was used to (eg printer broken? Fix it yourself!) and have to take responsibility for matters which would have previously been my boss's.
Looking back, I am not sure I made the right decision.

fleur also, a lot of low-paid jobs are physical eg cleaner, builder etc, which can wreck your body (same repetitive motions over and over again). Plus, having no respect from society gets stressful! You may not have work stress, but feeling people are looking down their nose at you/your kids is not a great feeling either.

I have an a basic level admin job, but also own a limited company that I run from home that's quite profitable and gives us nice holidays, cars and general standard of living.

I agree blue. I was much more stressed and overworked and exhausted working for minimum wage in shops or takeaways than I am now in my professional career earning three times what I used to. It’s a very different kind of stress, but the higher up the ladder you go the more autonomy you have, you command more respect and have much more power to make decisions that benefit you. It’s a million times less stressful than being a dogsbody in a replaceable role being micromanaged and having barely enough income to make ends meet at the end of a gruelling week.

I think a proportion of posters on MN are living an imaginary life.
I'm sure there are plenty of high flying career women on here, married to high flying execs but it doesn't represent real life.

I have 2 part time jobs, both better than average hourly wage but not Chanel affording level. Hubby is a postman, absolutely smashes the overtime to earn a better than average wage but not astronomical.
Most people I know are doing average to decent jobs on an average to decent wage.

basque yes, the micromanaging and being treated like you are an idiot get very stressful, very quickly.

Look at the shit they put up with in the Amazon warehouse, it looks awful.
