If I self ID as a man will I immediately get paid 33% more for the same job? That is how this works right?

I have short hair, wear trousers mostly, my hobbies are predominantly done by men and I work in a male dominated industry.

So really I am a man.

Yes but today’s madness is tomorrow’s hatespeak...

I think it's brilliant. I'd like to ID as Angelina Jolie, can't wait for my next film. Make sure you don't miss it !

WitchyMcWitchface · 08/11/2018 07:36

He raises good points eg getting a mortgage as an older person, health insurance, not going on 18-30 hols etc

SaucyJack · 08/11/2018 07:41

I’d like to ID as

youarenotkiddingme · 08/11/2018 07:42

His plight highlights some interesting social issues around age.

Clearly we need to be working on that rather than him being born a year before he graduated!

PurpleWithRed · 08/11/2018 07:47

Ooh I’m finding it hard to choose who to ID as. My cat? Sarah Don (married to the Divine Monty)? I don’t fancy being a man, all that exhausting masturbating to do.

FekkoThePenguin · 08/11/2018 07:50

I actally physically feel 20 years older than my assigned date if birth.

Can I claim my pension please?

Unicornandbows · 08/11/2018 07:51

He does make valid points though if people can self id to something biologically different than why not age or anything. It's madness

FekkoThePenguin · 08/11/2018 07:53

I thought most people lied on online dating anyway?

PoesyCherish · 08/11/2018 07:59

Are you serious @Unicornandbows? They are in no way comparable.

Can I self identify as an average height, size 8 person please rather than a ridiculously short overweight person. Oh and if I could just self identify as being in my 30s too? Most of my friends in their 30s have more stable mental health, I'd like to be there now please.

Peaceisbliss · 08/11/2018 07:59

The world is slowly but surely going bat shit crazy Grin

PoesyCherish · 08/11/2018 08:00

@FekkoThePenguin yeah they do but it sounds like he's relatively well known over there. Not sure how self identifying is going to make people forget he's 20 years older though Confused

RandomlyChosenName · 08/11/2018 08:07

I expect there are a lot of people who don't feel their age- I don't. Think of the "you're only as young as you feel" phrase that is of common usage. Some people even have biology on their side, is when bone age isn't the same as their age.

Not such a crazy idea...

MidniteScribbler · 08/11/2018 08:08

I thought with age came wisdom? Or at least enough self awareness to know that you aren't getting many dates beause you're a dick.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/11/2018 08:08

Just listening this to the radio as I'm reading this thread!

I think it's got as much sense as "identifying as . . . (insert preference here)" has most of the time - ie, none at all!

But perhaps it will bring the ridiculousness of these self "identifications" to the fore.

greendale17 · 08/11/2018 08:10

Why not? If men can self identify as woman and vice versa

PabloTescobar · 08/11/2018 08:11

I think I have identified as a middle aged person since I was about 11, before it was even a thing.

carnitine · 08/11/2018 08:13

It's getting out of hand and totally ridiculous. Last week there was the white guy who has decided he is African because he identifies with Africans.

Maybe I can identify as a billionaire and live like one, how could I be charged with fraud if I think and believe I am a billionare, even though I am not !

justilou1 · 08/11/2018 08:16

I'm going to self-identify 20 years younger. And single. (Am currently very pissed off with DH). Also as tall and glamorous. OOOOOOH! And as a Bajillionaire!!!

TheCupboardUnderTheStairs · 08/11/2018 08:46

No matter what surgery, documents or laws, a man is never going to look like a woman. Especially in a sequined boob tube and denim mini skirt.....and size 12 feet! Sorry but it's true.

The precedent has already been set that feelings trump biology, so his argument seems valid to me.

ginghamstarfish · 08/11/2018 08:56

Really though, us women who are let us say in the prime of life, and have seen our pensionable age get further and further away, why CAN'T we say ' I identify as (pension age) and see what the government think about that? It's equally nonsensical as saying you can magically change your sex. Anyone up for a try? A petition?
