sage Shock how on Earth was that defence even linking her underwear to it? We’re they really trying to imply the victim sent out some kind of signal for someone to break into her home by wearing a thong to go to sleep?

Jent13c · 07/11/2018 17:13

It's like they haven't learned anything from Lindsay Armstrong all those years ago. Absolutely heartbreaking and I hope this poor girl has good support around her

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 17:14

I'm actually shocked.

UpstartCrow · 07/11/2018 17:16

I'd like to start a campaign for the manufacturers of thongs to put a warning on them.

sageandrage · 07/11/2018 17:18

Istand exactly

OlennasWimple · 07/11/2018 17:21

Indeed, UpstartCrow

And for new guidance to juries to make clear that a man wearing underwear that allows easy access to his penis was clearly dressing to go out that night and rape someone. Why else would he need to be able to access his genitals quickly and with one hand?

IStandWithPosie · 07/11/2018 17:24

YY olennas!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 07/11/2018 17:26

That is absolutely disgusting. Ms Elizabeth O'Connell SC should be absolutely ashamed of herself. What a gross, misguided thing to say.

MorrisZapp · 07/11/2018 17:26

Terrifying. He dragged her down an alley and there were witnesses.

CallMeRachel · 07/11/2018 17:29

Ms Elizabeth O’Connell SC ^told jurors they should have regard for the underwear the complainant wore on the night.

“Does the evidence out-rule the possibility that she was attracted to the defendant and was open to meeting someone and being with someone? You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front.”^

Ms Elizabeth O'Connell SC, you are a cunt. Please do not breed.

A horrendous case where it sounds as if a witness even intervened as he was dragging the girl through the mud with his hand round her neck. She hasn't had sex before.

I hope the victim is getting support.

HisBetterHalf · 07/11/2018 17:31

so anyone wearing a lacy thong is gagging for it???
I thought this was 2018? Ms Elizabeth O'Connell should be sacked

ferntwist · 07/11/2018 17:32

YANBU. This is disgraceful and has no place in our legal system or Ireland’s. I bet the defence lawyer is feeling very satisfied with themselves as they knock back champagne tonight. Shameful.

mbosnz · 07/11/2018 17:35

In the old days (when I was a kid), Mum always used to implore me to mind the state of my underwear in case I was hit by a bus. If it were old and tatty, what would that say about me?!

Come 2018, do I have to implore my daughters to mind their choice of underwear, in case they are raped, and it is brought up in a court of law as to what it says about them. . .

youarenotkiddingme · 07/11/2018 17:36

Sage 😱

Nope, no words to actually respond to that.

IStandWithPosie · 07/11/2018 17:44

Are these comments never challenge day in court? Do the prosecution get an opportunity to address the jury and say things like “the defence implying lace underwear automatically consents to sex with anyone, we all know this is not the case” etc etc

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 17:50

Even if we were to accept that a woman wearing a thong = a woman on the prowl, she still has the god given right to choose who she has sex with. It's not to be chosen for her.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2018 17:54

I have no words.

How in 2018 do we even permit the defence to know what pants she had on ffs

Cheeeeislifenow · 07/11/2018 17:55

Even if they are though it's already been said..a seed is planted.
Isn't that the reason why some lawyers say things which they know will be objected too?

Shocking and sad.

And that it was a woman spouting this nonsense.

Threewheeler1 · 07/11/2018 18:04

Fucking hell, the world seems to get worse daily.
This is insanity.
That poor young woman. Raped and then held accountable for it.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/11/2018 18:16

Its just horrendous

What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

It happened before in Scotland. A young girl was raped, but he got off because she had a thong on with a devil on it. How that was relevant I don’t know as she had jeans and a jumper on when she was attacked. Apparently her unseen underwearv said ‘yes i’d Like you to force me to have sex against my will!’ He was found not guilty and she committed suicide!!!! Clothes are not the problem, if a woman goes out naked with a sign pointing to her fanny saying ‘everyone welcome’ she still has the right to decide, who, when and where!

IStandWithPosie · 07/11/2018 18:20

You’re still being offensive madmum.
