Due to go for surgery tomorrow on my knee, have been living with pain on and off flare ups for 20 years now in both knees.

Im only 31 and have a sinking feeling surgeon will have a look and say nothing was bad enough to fix.

The knee they are operating on tomorrow is not even the worst one at the moment because my other knee is having a flare up. But they would only investigate one at a time so i picked the worst one last year.

At the moment getting up from sitting causes shooting pain, turning, stairs... anything that exerts the joint while bending really.

Cant imagine the progression of this getting any better as I age.

Feeling sorry for myself

Sorry. I don’t have any relevant experience but there is so much they can do now. And they wouldn’t be suggesting surgery if they felt there was nothing they could do. Really hope this has a happy ending for you. Wishing you all the luck for tomorrow Flowers

Thank you.

He has said he will see what he can do, mri cat scan amd xray showing shallow joint but no enough for them to fix, damaged cartlidge, missing cartlidge, loose ligaments. Also have a squint knee cap and a non cancerous tumour. But he seems to think none of these are particularly bad so has not actually agreed what they will do other than have a look and see what they can do. So vague

Does sound vague but doesn’t sound bad necessarily. Sounds like he wants to have a look and do the best that he can. I wish I could tell you what you want to hear. I really hope it goes well for you tomorrow.

I hope it all goes well for you and that you get at least some improvement. My partner had knee surgery for arthritis (different from your case, I know) and it made a big difference. Good luck!

Wishiwaswonderwoman87 · 06/11/2018 20:42

Thanks ladies. Sorry for the pity party, I think all the back and forth with gp a and e and physio over the last 20 years has left me with no hope for improvement.

Will keep my fingers crossed and hope tomorrow brings some better news.

Oh you poor thing.

My DH has awful knee problems from running marathons when a bit younger.

Has had many procedures but not full on surgery, just keyhole to poke around and see, resulting in a clean out of cartilage and some other stuff. OK for three months, then back to base.

Two weeks ago he had an inpatient ultrasound guided cortisone injection and hasn't had a problem since. It is a miracle. Although it only works for a certain length of time, it is giving back some quality of life.

Hope you will be ok.

Good luck! I hope they find something that they can fix. Knees are so tricky though as it seems that a lot can go wrong with them but you just can’t diagnose it. It is frustrating. I’m nowhere near your 20 years but my knees have been screwed for 4 years now (and a bad back for 2) and I’m only 33 and it feels like we’re a bit young for all this, doesn’t it? Sorry I haven’t got any advice but I’m sending you good vibes and hoping that it all goes well tomorrow. Flowers

Hi ladies. Surgery all done and they decided to keep me in instead of being a day patient... possibly because i was quite headachey, nauseous and in pain after the GA. I have yet to find out what they have done as I didnt see my surgeon this afternoon but hopefully I will have a better idea tomorrow. Thank you for the support.
