Scrabble or jtfo

MrsStrowman · 06/11/2018 17:54

@ScribblyGum
Pandemic no 1 in our house, the two legacy games have been amazing to play. Throwing away the game when you have finished is tough though.
I winced every time we had to tear up a card, brilliant though.

LosingMyRemote · 06/11/2018 18:00

Settlers of Catan

Carcassonne - DC, just gone 7 have just started playing it with us.

Escape from Atlantis - Awesome fun for all ages. It's old, but you should be able to find one on ebay. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24037/escape-atlantis

We all like KerPlunk, not a board game but very fun.

Moreisnnogedag · 06/11/2018 18:02

@ScrubblyGum and @MrsStrowman - do you really have to tear up the cards?? Can you not set aside them or something? We love pandemic and the legacy games sound awesome but I just know realistically I will never tear up the card or deface the board.

JeanBodel · 06/11/2018 18:02

We like Ticket to Ride and Catan. However the big favourite is Seven Wonders - can't believe it hasn't been mentioned already.

MrsStrowman · 06/11/2018 18:03

Escape the curse of the temple is great, pandemic, codenames, forbidden desert, dead of winter, Castle panic, smash up, king of New York, ticket to ride Europe

eldritch horror if you've got a lot of time spare,

quick games - zombie dice, the resistance.

I have heard really good things about gloomhaven too, but haven't bought it , need to see if this baby sleeps or not before deciding if we have time to play it!

MrsStrowman · 06/11/2018 18:06

@Moreisnnogedag yep you do and there are some bits you'll never open or read depending how the game plays out, I physically couldn't do it someone else had to, but did enjoy scratching off the win bonuses. I love pandemic and all of the various extensions, but legacy was brilliant. DH and I have played board games for a while and we played with two non gamer friends, who are now hooked on co-op gaming

RomanyRoots · 06/11/2018 18:09

Cluedo. But not the newer versions, I was quite disappointed in the changes tbh.

Can I just recommend this game, it's only for 2 players and great for older kids, and challenging.
It's quite old, I still have mine from the 70's.

AnnabelleLecter · 06/11/2018 18:10

Scattergories
Scrabble
Backgammon

ChairinSage · 06/11/2018 18:12

DH is a board game nut and we have a dining room full of games. I'm not at all keen on the complicated role playing sorts, but I do like a game of:
Ticket to Ride
Dominion (no board, just cards)
Clank
Munchkin
Pandemic (although can't bring myself to start the Legacy version. Tearing up cards is just wrong!)

I've also heard him raving about Terraforming Mars and Gloomhaven but haven't tried them myself. He liked making inserts for the boxes as much as he likes playing them.

Neolara · 06/11/2018 18:16

I do t normally enjoy board games but I really enjoy pandemic.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/11/2018 18:22

The Really nasty horse racing game is very good.

InterstellarScreamingElla · 06/11/2018 18:23

Damn, I was going to say Monopoly- not that anyone will play with me anymore....

Chess if there is only two of you playing? Scrabble?

NigelGresley · 06/11/2018 18:29

YANBU but YABU to post this in AIBU Grin

Anyhow, it’s Cranium for me

UterusUterusGhali · 06/11/2018 18:30

For children Catan Jr is brilliant. Great for adults too.
I haven't tried proper Catan yet but if the gameplay is similarly good as Jr then it'll be fab.

Merryoldgoat · 06/11/2018 18:32

Agricola
Puerto Rico
Carcassonne
Citadels (best with 5 players)
Boss Monster is a fun quick game

I feel like I’ve found my fellow geeks on this thread!

Merryoldgoat · 06/11/2018 18:34

Ooooh - Zombie Mall of Horror!

NatashaRomanov · 06/11/2018 18:40

Ticket To Ride
Carcassonne
Kingdom Builder
Quadropolis
King of Tokyo
Cleopatra and the Society of Architects
Mansions of Madness
Biblios
Fluxx games

chemenger · 06/11/2018 19:04

A Scottish game called Stramash is a big favourite with us. We just bought Ticket to Ride and it’s great, simple but with a good balance of strategy and luck.

StripyHorse · 06/11/2018 19:11

Games my family love...
Double (card not board game)
Quirks
Labyrinth
It's a chicken (child's dictionary type game)
Trivial Pursuit

Cranium nearly caused WW3 when we played it with friends years ago.

seekingclarity · 06/11/2018 19:14

7 wonders
Camel up
Splendor
Augustus
Bonhanza
Ticket to ride

I could go on.

CaptainHammer · 06/11/2018 19:15

Labyrinth
Lattice
Sorry!

FortyFeet · 06/11/2018 19:18

Anything that doesn't involve rolling a dice to move.

PepeLePew · 06/11/2018 19:21

CamelUp
Ticket to Ride
Risk
Qwirkle
Carcassone

We also like Sushi Go, Mancala and Dobble. Not board games though.
