To wonder why gay couples on TV are usually male?

It's not uncommon to see two men in a relationship on a home improvement style show (I'll admit to watching lots) but you rarely see two women. It's the same in dramas, if you do occasionally see two women they're usually younger than 30 and playing the field.
These are just my observations, I'm happy to be told I'm wrong and watching the wrong tv. But if I'm not, why? Are gay men more acceptable?

That last sentence is clunky so say the least. Deemed more acceptable to the wider viewing public is hopefully less so

I said the exact same thing to DH the other day. The best we could come up with is the notion that a relationship that excludes men completely was unacceptable, the patriarchy etc. We really couldn't come up with anything else.

I think it's something many lesbians are aware of! I don't really know why. With regards to home improvement shows, it's rather stereotypical but gay men probably do have more interest in interiors than women.

Watch Legends of tomorrow. It is hilarious (after first season), and the kickass team captain is a beautiful bisexual woman in a couple with a equally kickass lady.
Or the 100, great show where the main female lead is gay.

All in all, more American shows have great bisexual or gay female characters.

I'll be honest, I don't watch much current TV. I do have a fondness for repeats of Kirsty and Phil's "Location, Location, Location" though, and they did seem to have their fair share of lesbian couples on.

Gay women are only acceptable in porn where they are doing it to turn on the men.

We watch 3 or 4 US shows that I can think of off the top of my head that feature gay or bisexual women. Some of those shows have gay men, but not all.

In comedy, a gay male couple allows for a comical camp character.

frankincensed that's a scary thought!

So there's an element of truth to it especially when it comes to non fiction shows. Are gay women more concerned about the fallout I wonder...?

Anyway... school run. I'll check back
