Hi there. I had bloods and urine taken yesterday and a referral for an abdominal ultrasound. I've had many symptoms for quite a while but eventually made an appointment when I got really uncomfortable. Stupid I know.

GP has called, I need 'further investigations' as bloods showed an 'ovarian cyst' raised marker. I'll hear from the hosp in next couple of days for a 2 week appointment. That's a lot quicker than the 3-4 week wait he quoted yesterday. The 'C' word was used.

Symptoms are feeling full, massive bloating, wind, urgency to pee, extreme tiredness.

I'm not menopausal.

I'm in a state. I can't find anything reassuring online.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom, except not to Google?

Thank you.

Totally understandable that you are in bits at present, and I hope you get seen and answers as soon as possible. I always think the uncertainty of the wait between an abnormal test and an actual diagnosis can be the worst part.

However, as you are pre-menopausal, there are other causes of the 'ovarian cyst' marker being raised as well as the 'c word'. It will be a marker called CA125 and in premenopausal women it can be raised by lots of things - endometriosis being a common one and it can also be raised in benign (non cancerous) ovarian cysts and fibroids. Some of these could cause your symptoms and I'll keep my fingers crossed it is something like that.

Flowers and I hope you get seen very soon and that it's ok.

I had the raised marker and a scan showed an ovarian cyst. The person doing the scan said they'd see me again in 6-8 weeks for another scan. I got a letter to refer me to the gyno with a date before the second scan was due. I called the reception and they scheduled the second scan for the Monday (this was on the Thursday) and wouldn't change my specialist appointment because I was put through as a priority case.

I had a laparoscopy and they found the cyst was 8 cm and I had severe endometriosis. Apparently my (it was either bowel or bladder, I'd not long woken up) was attached to my uterus. I was in and out the same day.

Everything was sent away and it was benign. From my first scan until my operation was less than 8 weeks.

One of my friends waited a while and had some of your symptoms but it was just because the cyst was larger. It was also benign.

Thank you for your replies. I've just seen on the blood test form the CA 125 test was done. I don't know the result. This is obviously the concern. The 2 week wait is the NHS waiting time for C concerns. I just want to sleep until it's all over. I'm a worrier. How am I supposed to functions mum/wife/high- pressured job with this hanging over me?
