laryngitis?

Waiting for GP appt and from what I've read up my symptoms sound a bit like laryngitis.
I've lost my voice and I have a bit of a cough, this morning (gross I know) I had a funny taste in my mouth and spat into the sink and it looked a bit bloody.
My gums are a bit sensitive and bleed after brushing teeth sometimes but I brushed them this morning so it couldn't be that.
I rinsed my mouth out with some water and a minute later after coughing I checked again and it seemed there was a bit of blood in the saliva.
Quick Google (I know I know) comes up with laryngitis and asks to seek medical attention if there's any blood when coughing so I've made an appointment just in case but in the meantime I'm trying to find out more.

Has anyone had this/would be able to tell me a bit more about it?

I had it. You need to stop speaking because you can actually damage your voice permanently. I'm not a singer or anything.
It depends if it's a virus or a bacterial infection. If it's viral they can't do much. If it's bacterial they can give you antibiotics. A quick google suggests the majority of cases are viral.
I actually didn't feel that bad and I spoke to NHS direct and they said to stop speaking, plenty of fluids and if it didn't improve in a few days see the doctor.
