AIBU to stop giving gifts to nieces

I have no children but I do have 2 nieces (22 and 18). I always give them cash for b/days and xmas but I'm starting to feel taken for granted a bit. I never seem to get thank you cards or a card for my birthday. AIBU to stop the b/day gifts (they always give me a xmas gift but I think their Mum (my sis) chooses/buys these (could be wrong).

I think they are old enough for you to stop. I did not have a single thank you from my niece, even though her mother (my sister) was brought up to thank from the age we could scrawl.

We stopped gifts for nieces and nephews when they hit 21.

Birthday and Christmas gifts stop at 18 in our family. We do give small gifts for significant birthdays.

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2018 16:36

In our family we stop at 18, but also give for 21st birthdays.

Thanks everyone. I really don't feel so bad about reigning it in now.

It was never about the cash gifts but just about being seen as someone who does not need to be appreciated by the rest of the family.

YANBU at all to stop.

YANBU

We stop at 18 too, but give something for 21st.

I would definitely stop considering you don't get a thank you or a birthday wish back - they are adults now.

CandyTiger, if you have no kids and if you feel like giving gifts to your nieces, then why stop yourself? I think, it's always nice to receive a box of chocolate, a book or let it be a simple holiday card, no matter how old a 'child' is. Or it can be an original gift with family photos like a photo calendar. I've just created one for my nieces and nephew (3 of them, ok, they are still kids, so what Smile). Just check it out, maybe you'll get inspired photo-calendar-software.com/tutorial.php
