AIBU?
To travel 5 hours day after LLETZ treatment

Very short version:
Dear Friend is dying. Wife has called to say if I’m coming, come soon. I’m devastated- but in the interests of not diverting this thread, will keep the below about logistics. Which sounds cold, but please believe me- am beside myself. He’s one of the great platonic loves of my life.
Have LLETZ for precancerous cells booked for tomorrow at 10- had booked Tuesday off work as holiday in addition to Monday for recovery.
Can’t go to friend overnight as am LP to DS(2) - and DM also quite unwell- though well enough to have him for a few hours here and there.
AIBU to take a 6am train on Tuesday, see friend for a few hours (11-1- more than that too tiring) and then get 4.5 hour train back the same day (home in time for DS bath time)?
I can make that work with childcare ... and catch up on work on the train (have large project at critical point), which means I could take the weds off if I’m floored.
AIBU and asking for trouble travelling that far the day after LLETZ? I’d be sat down most of the day... but not sure what to expect?

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Absolutely go, it will be fine.
I had LLETZ earlier in th year and was fine the next day and back to work. Was a little bit of bleeding but less than a period (just to let you know first period after LLETZ was much heavier than normal though!)
I felt slightly delicate, but I think that was more mentally than physically.

Are you having it under GA or awake? I've had both and would have been absolutely fine doing what you're planning after the awake one. I could have gone back to work the same day to be honest as felt totally fine afterwards, even once the local had worn off. I went back to work the day after and felt completely normal.
If you're having a GA then it might be a bit much as you need to get over the anaesthetic more than the actual procedure.

Thank you both
Having it under local.
Hoping sincerely not to need to return for further work under GA- and that the fact they’ve waited a month since having my biopsy results to do LLETZ, means this is just CIN1. But won’t know on that front until tomorrow.
exDP has just offered to step in if DM struggling (he too is ill... honestly it’s been quite a year) but between them they just about make a whole functioning adult so feel confident that DS, with nursery taking him the day as usual, will be fine.
I’ll let DFs wife know I’ll be there - such an awful, wonderful thing to have the opportunity to do. To say goodbye to someone you love...
