When one is hot and one is cold?

My DP is constantly hot. He likes all the windows (and often doors) to be open and I’m forever going round shutting windows that he’s left open and then gone out. He even likes to leave windows wide open when we are both out at work which I HATE because it’s a security risk more than anything!

Now that the weather has turned I want to keep the bigger windows shut and just have the small top ones open for ventilation.

He just tried to open the back door while we are just pottering about the house and I said NO and he called me selfish. AIBU to think if he’s that hot he can go outside? I’m already wearing a big jumper and thick socks and I’m doing so to bed because he has the windows open all evening so it’s freezing in our bedroom.

Who is being unreasonable? Anyone else have this dilemma? I’d have the heating on if it were just me!

You need to agree on a constant temperature. If you would like 20 and he would like 15, you compromise at 17.5. You use a thermostat and turn the heating up if it drops, down if it rises. Windows and doors can be opened as long as the temperature doesn't drop below the agreed constant.

If he leaves the windows open when you are out, it invalidates your insurance; so he is being massively unreasonable about that.
He should get checked out by the GP. If he needs fresh air that isn't caused by being too hot, its a feeling of suffocating.

In my house, it's whoever is hottest wins (which is usually me because my body doesn't regulate temperature properly). There's only so much clothing you can remove before its indecent. That being said, the hottest person is usually walking around barefoot, with light clothing on before your even allowed to think of opening the windows because that wouldn't be fair to everyone else. It is INCREDIBLY selfish of your DP to want all of the windows or doors open constantly because he is hot and probably points to an underlying health issue.

I've always gone by the reasoning that if you are hot it's difficult to cool down compared to when you are cold.
