To wonder if PCOS would have been picked up on my ultrasound?

The thought has crossed my mind for a while that I may have PCOS. I have lots of random hairs growing up my chin and around my nipples and even before I had my mirena, my periods were so irregular ranging from 18 day cycles to about 50/60 day cycles.

I had an ultrasound recently (the stomach one rather than transvaginal) to check for my missing mirena coil. They found the mirena (thankfully) and also mentioned my ovaries looked good. Would PCOS have been picked up on this scan?

If the scan was of your ovaries then it should have picked up if they were polycystic in appearance.

I was diagnosed with PCOS by scan but it was an internal scan

I've had abdominal ultrasounds where the PCOS was visible, but they were looking for ovaries not stomach. So maybe it depends what they were looking for with yours. With PCOS you usually have a few of the symptoms, so if you have irregular periods, hormonal issues or issues with weight then maybe ask to get checked out! Hope that helps.

Sorry just re-read your post because I stupidly missed half of it and see what you've mentioned about your cycles!

My doctor said it is possible to have PCOS and not have loads of cysts, as PCOS covers a really wide spectrum

I was diagnosed with mild POCS ( i have no symptoms) following an ultrasound to check my kidneys and bladder, they said one ovary was 70% covered bit the other looked normal. I would expect if they said that your ovaries looked good then PCOS isn't the cause of your symptoms, sorry. Maybe your hormones are out of balance for another reason?

Thanks all. Sounds like I really need to chat to my GP about it. I'm not sure I can with a coil though? I mean won't it sound a bit odd complaining about irregular periods whilst I have a mirena coil? Obviously I know my periods have been irregular since I started almost 15 years ago but won't the GP just assume it's because I have a mirena? I have only had one for two years though.

@Jezebelz the scan was specifically checking my womb to see if the coil was still there (strings went missing) but then the sonographer mentioned my ovaries and looked at them both.
