Posting here for traffic. Please please can we keep it nice and civil. I need an answer asap.

My mother has been arrested and is awaiting questioning or whatever.

I know this for a fact. However, due to GDPR apparently the police can neither confirm nor deny she is there.

I need her house key to go and pick up her puppy who is currently alone in the house and hasn't been fed for around 6 hours.

Wtf am I meant to do.

They won't tell me she's there and so therefore they can't let me pick up the key as that would be confirming she's there and I'm going round in circles and the dog needs collected and fed ASAP.

When she arrived at the custody unit for booking in she will have been asked if she wanted anyone told she was here (a nominated person) if she has declined this, then the custody unit will not be able to confirm or deny she is there.

You will need to find another way to get into the property

ShowOfHands · 01/11/2018 22:40

To whom have you spoken?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/11/2018 22:41

When (if) she’s was booked in they will have asked her if she has any dependents (children, pets, vulnerable adults) needing her. She can let them know and they usually tell appropriate authorities if she doesn’t want you to deal with it. Has she phoned you?

Ragevibration · 01/11/2018 22:41

Thank you for your response. I already know she is there as the social worker told me that's where they were taking her but they still just keep telling me they can't confirm or deny!!!!

How do I go about getting into a property in a rural village at by the time I get there 2am?!

Ragevibration · 01/11/2018 22:43

I also spoke her just as the police arrived and they told her to tell me they were taking her to x police station and she wouk d be able to call me in due course but that was 5 hours ago

ArnoldBee · 01/11/2018 22:43

Can't you tell them that there is an animal that requires urgent assistance at x address and ask for advice how to gain entry to the property?

Brenna24 · 01/11/2018 22:43

24 hour locksmith?

HoleyCoMoley · 01/11/2018 22:44

Is there an emergency social worker you can call who can get the key, would her neighbours have a key, can you leave a message with the police station to say you understand she may be there and are going to her property, can they meet you there with a key.

SeaGreenSeaGlass · 01/11/2018 22:45

I hope you're mum's OK. I assume you've tried asking the police to pass on a message to your mum, even if they can't confirm that she's there and that they will pass the message on. Maybe your mum has contacted someone about the puppy? If you're sure that no-one else will be helping the puppy, maybe you could go to her house and check with neighbours or try to get a locksmith out?
I don't know what proof of identity they'd need to change the locks, but that puppy needs help now and it's great you're thinking of them.

Dragongirl10 · 01/11/2018 22:46

Just go with a hammer and break a small window, poor puppy could die if there is no water available.

GunpowderGelatine · 01/11/2018 22:47

Social worker? Locksmiths? What are you people on?!

Hope you're OK OP and hopefully she'll have alerted them to the fact she has a dog at home.

Drogosnextwife · 01/11/2018 22:47

Locksmith. Smash a window. Surely you can go to the police station and collect a key if they have let her yell you she is there?

Bobbybear10 · 01/11/2018 22:47

You will either have to find a way into the property or phone the RSPCA emergency number.

I presume no neighbours would have a key?

Or you might have to phone the 101 when you get there and explain there is a distressed animal and you need access?

I would think the RSPCA would be the best bet first though.

GunpowderGelatine · 01/11/2018 22:49

And FFS don't go breaking her window! Some terrible advice on here.
OP do you think they'll keep her overnight? If so it may be worth going and asking them to get her to confirm you can know she's there and have an officer go with you to her property (they'd go anyway if she's let them know about the dog)

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 01/11/2018 22:50

I'd call up the station that you know she's at (even though they haven't told you officially)

Just say I understand that you can't confirm that my mother is there but she has a very animal at her home That needs care, can you either ask her permission to give me her key which is in her belongings and I will pick it up from the station so I can gain entry or as police can you please advise me how I can gain entry another way as the puppy is too young to be left alone for so long.

Princessmushroom · 01/11/2018 22:51

Not my advice but I wonder what would happen if you reported her as missing to the police.

There’s a time and place for GDPR and this isn’t it!

Ragevibration · 01/11/2018 22:56

Thanks for all your messages

Away to try the station again and try and get them to talk some sense and failing that try something else above

No other keys around... obviously need to get to puppy ASAP one way or another.

Thank you all

When you go to the police station inform them they are not breaching GDPR as she told you where she was being taken, as did the social worker, and that you just want her key to assist the puppy, not any information about your mother. If they refuse you might have to tell them you are about to call the Police about a puppy that has been left unattended...

catinboots9 · 01/11/2018 23:03

The police have a duty of care. Insist there is an animal that relies on your mum. Make a fuss. Hope it all works okay xx

Calamityjac · 01/11/2018 23:09

Phone the RSPCA and tell them, surely they must be able to do something, ie call the police! X

littlemisscomper · 01/11/2018 23:09

Poor little puppy!! It must be so distressed.

Poloshot · 01/11/2018 23:10

Don't phone the RSPCA ffs

whyhaveidonethis · 01/11/2018 23:15

It's not ideal but the puppy surely was left with some food and water? The police won't keep her longer than 24 hours (unless she's up for terrorism) and likely a lot less then she will either be released or in court. Either way you will get to see her in court or when released within 24 hours
. If she was arrested at home then the police will know about the puppy and would've left food out for it.

DogInATent · 01/11/2018 23:23

It's not ideal but the puppy surely was left with some food and water?
Dogs are usually left with water, but not food (they're fed to a routine). 6hrs is already a long time for a puppy to be alone.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/11/2018 23:25

Hope you manage to get in and get the puppy, how stressful for you.
