Posting here for traffic. Please please can we keep it nice and civil. I need an answer asap.

My mother has been arrested and is awaiting questioning or whatever.

I know this for a fact. However, due to GDPR apparently the police can neither confirm nor deny she is there.

I need her house key to go and pick up her puppy who is currently alone in the house and hasn't been fed for around 6 hours.

Wtf am I meant to do.

They won't tell me she's there and so therefore they can't let me pick up the key as that would be confirming she's there and I'm going round in circles and the dog needs collected and fed ASAP.

Usually on arrival at custody suite they’ll ask about dependents, pets, health, medication
If an amhp sees her they usually ask too about dependents, pets, home situation, nok

No it does not require rspca

ReanimatedSGB · 01/11/2018 23:29

Sounds like you've been dealing with one of the volunteers who man the front desk at police stations: these people are always a) stupid and b) obstructive. Good luck in getting put through to someone with more sense.

PawPawNoodle · 01/11/2018 23:30

Call 101 and speak to an operator about it - I think there's even an option relating to people already in custody. Explain about the puppy and your concern for its safety.

Tell them that you know she is booked in at X custody suite and could a custody sergeant please liaise with her to get permission for her door key to be taken out of her property and passed to you, or for her to tell you who else has a key so you can collect it from them.

tempester28 · 01/11/2018 23:56

Explain the situation to the police on the front desk. Ask if they have a solution regarding obtaining the key. If they don't, ask them to refer the situation to the RSPCA.

BewareOfDragons · 01/11/2018 23:58

Call a locksmith or break in, OP.

Call 999 and tell them a puppy has been left with no food or water and some people are withholding the key to the house from you.

LittleBookofCalm · 02/11/2018 00:44

surely the puppy will be ok?

Redglitter · 02/11/2018 00:44

Great advice there Charolais cos that'll definitely work 🙄

Nicknacky · 02/11/2018 00:47

Charolais I am praying you are joking but I fear you aren’t.

Foreverlexicon · 02/11/2018 00:47

Don’t phone 999 for gods sake.
Also police have to abide by the same laws as everyone else hence they can’t pass out the information.

If she hasn’t nominated you, they can’t tell you.
Regardless of how moany you get to the staff.

Charolais · 02/11/2018 00:47

Great advice there Charolais cos that'll definitely work 🙄

It was a fucking joke!

abacucat · 02/11/2018 00:48

The puppy will have been fed this morning. As long as it has water, it will be fine. Your mum will be home by tomorrow.

Yonijust · 02/11/2018 00:53

Go into the station.

BastardGoDarkly · 02/11/2018 00:55

Ok, Is it poss8ble it's already in hand? Social worker/police would surely know about the puppy by now?

Unless your mum has additional needs, meaning she may not have made it clear?

Is there any possibility that she really doesn't want you going inside her house?

I hope you get some answers, you must be very worried Flowers

QuestionableMouse · 02/11/2018 00:58

Sorry but no one can say that the puppy will be fine. No one knows if it has water, when it was last fed, if it's warm enough or anything like that.

Keep phoning the station op. Explain there's a puppy that needs help. Failing that give 101 a ring and see what they suggest. Good luck.

FTFF · 02/11/2018 01:01

Is this a Scottish or English police station?
I know they are All covered by the GDP Rrules however in Scotland the person in custody can be spoken to after arrest rights have been given and give consent for you to be told they are there.

When you phone explain you already know she is there and ask if she can be asked if she gives consent for you to be spoken to.

This will very much depend on the person on the phone being prepared to help you. If they refuse ask to speak to the sergeant or inspector for custody or ask to speak to the officers dealing with the case.
