About outcome of job interview

I had an interview for a band 5 NHS post last week. Said I would hear by Tuesday, not heard anything. I’ve emailed and left a message too... still nothing, NHS jobs says decision pending... AIBU to think they just don’t want to tell me that they don’t want me. I put silicon effort in I’d just like to be put out of my misery

Maybe they haven’t decided yet. Maybe the key person is ill or super busy? Hopefully you’ll hear soon - good luck

When I interviewed people I'd offer it to the first choice that day and also tell those who were in no way getting the job. I'd hang off for a few people as if first choice said they did not want the job I'd have others to offer it to. It was not NHS jobs

I would assume you're 2nd or 3rd choice and they're still waiting to hear back from the 1st choice

Hmm there were several posts going... tbh I feel a little upset and frustrated. They could just make contact and say they haven’t decided yet

I don’t think it works like that in NHS in terms of 1st 2nd choice etc you either make the cut or you don’t! If you don’t get the person you offer the job to it goes back to advert usually

It can work like that. I applied for one of 3 NHS band 5 roles advertised and was offered the job that day. My friend, who interviewed at the same time as me was offered a job three days later. It turned out they had offered it to another person who turned it down and friend was next on the list. Don’t lose hope!

Thanks for the encouragement, I can’t bear the thought of going into another weekend left hanging

As someone who works in the NHS it absolutely can work like that. It's frustrating but it could be that they're waiting on a preferred candidate to respond to an offer.
For a band 5 post there are usually 3 interviewers (in my hospital), or at least 2. Who have you contacted? HR or one of the interviewers?

Also just because it isn't unusual but that's doesn't make it ok. Sorry you haven't heard yet. I hope you get an answer tmw.

I contacted the person who had said I would hear by Tuesday. They were also interviewing for some band 6 posts that would also affect things on the Tuesday. I feel really deflated

It's probably been held up in HR. I work for a public sector organisation and interview a lot. I always tell my interviewees that I will make a decision on a certain date but can't guarantee when they will hear as it's usually down to HR that contact the candidates, not the interviewer.

All takes is someone on panel to be sick then these things can be pushed back couple of weeks easily

Ambulance service: I was told 2 weeks for decision... after 6 weeks, I resorted to phoning the contact person who said there was 98% chance I wouldn't get an offer. So I said yes to a different offer. I still think that was a lucky escape not to get that NHS job.

I've another NHS interview soon. Fairly nervous about it. Dunno if I want this NHS job, either!

Sounds like their first choice was a time waster along with the OP.

I'm baffled

THrey took a very long time to get back to me with no explanation despite me contacting them several times- and i reflected that there had been several things they said in the interview that put me off and concerned me. Also pay scale was not as advertised. I’d also had some advice from others that had recently left the same place and felt I would be in a worse situation than I am now
