AIBU?
It's a work one..

I started a new job on Monday. It's brilliant.
However, I'm fat. And I'm struggling to find scrubs in my size. I've put in a request for bigger scrubs, and was tutted at and told that really I should be trying to lose weight.. thats great! However I still need scrubs that fit me right now.. I need to be able to move and not feel like my legs are going to fall off!
I've joined a gym and have completely overhauled my diet. I will lose the weight this is my motivation. But this is going to take a bit of time.
However AIBU to expect to be able to have access to a uniform required to do my job that fits?!
I'm fucking mortified

No you're not unreasonable to want a uniform that fits. Telling you to lose weight is just rude, who said that to you? Can you ask your boss or hr?
kaytee87 · 31/10/2018 08:27
Who told you you should be trying to lose weight? Also as you said that doesn't help you just now!!
NewYoiker · 31/10/2018 08:30
It was my mentor. I don't think she's put a request in. I'll speak to my line manager this afternoon as I'm fast running out of options!
I don't even mind paying for them it's the judgement I don't like!
DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/10/2018 08:32
Does the mentor understand how weight works? If we could click our fingers and be 1 or 2 dress-sizes smaller we'd all be size 8 wouldn't we? What does she suggest you wear in the meantime?
LordPickle · 31/10/2018 08:33
Hmmm, it's actually not that simple. Uniforms only go up to a certain size (can't remember which, possibly 26?) and after that, they have to be specially made and there is no easy way to do it. A new employee at my previous employer had to send in a top of hers so they could make it in her size. She was very unhappy about it but there was no other way as they simply didn't manufacture larger sizes.
I agree that your mentor shouldn't have made you feel bad though. Very unprofessional and unkind.
bridgetreilly · 31/10/2018 08:36
That the uniforms only go up to a certain size is not your problem, it is your work's problem to solve. Either they source scrubs which fit you, or they find an alternative uniform to suit. If you want to lose weight, great. But you do not have to lose weight because your workplace decides it will only provide uniforms for staff of a certain size. And your mentor absolutely needs reporting to HR for her comments and her failure to act to provide you with appropriate uniform.

Haha yes! @DanielRicciardosSmile definitely! She suggested I wear the scrubs that are a size smaller which do fit but don't allow me a full range of movement
