Not to offer a taste of my plate at a restaurant?

Interested in hearing people's opinions. Am I a little rude in not offering people a taste of my plate?

I do it with DH, but when there is a group of say 5 people, I don't want 5 peoples' forks into my plate. Conversely I do not want to taste everyone's dish either.

Is this considered rude? Should one always offer?

I don't mind the odd 'taste' but I have never experienced something like the OP describes in terms of scale.

What I cannot stand is people saying "shall we split it" and making me feel greedy for wanting my own main course though. I had one friend who was notorious for this and it was embarrassing in restaurants. Splitting a main is just . Can go with competitive non eating routines as well, which frankly doesn't make for a very enjoyable night out.

Having said all that I don't mind sharing dessert....
