Misophonia

Hello all! I’ve got a stinking cold, feeling pretty sorry for myself Grin

DP is usually an affectionate wee sweetheart, apart from when I’m ill! He’s brought me soup, ice cream and Lemsip today but he can’t stand to be anywhere near me for fear of hearing any sneezes, sniffles, coughs or other ‘ill sounds’. He’s sleeping on the sofa because my breathing is too loud apparently.

He’s decided to self-diagnose with misophonia Hmm but I think he’s being mean Grin and a bit silly.

AIBU or is he?!

yabu,

misophonia is a thing. he is being lovely removing himself, not forcing you to move.

Believeitornot · 29/10/2018 22:05

Yabu

Unless you feel the pain then you can’t understand.

DH’s chewing chocolate on the sofa and I’m excusing myself to go and iron.

YABU.

He is being deadly serious. Its hell to live with.

That is why I dont miss sniffy breathing people.

sprawls out in double bed ALONE

Sexnotgender · 29/10/2018 22:06

YABU, I’m sure I’ve got misophonia. It’s dreadful sometimes.

He’s looking after you and has removed himself from the situation without inconveniencing you.

Yonijust · 29/10/2018 22:08

Not one of us has said 'get well soon'

Have these Flowers but DONT sniff them.

Have this Brew but DONT slurp it.

Haircutdilemma · 29/10/2018 22:11

Misophonia is awful, so difficult to live with, I can't even be in the same room as my children when they eat cereal without wanting to put them up for adoption.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers for your DH putting up with your wet noises.

KlutzyDraconequus · 29/10/2018 22:13

Misophonia is awful to live with.
Depending on the severity it can cause the fight or flight reaction to kick in. If the fight reaction rears its head it can cause the sufferer to appear to be aggressive and really pissed off all because someone's chewing near them.

My noise sensitivity leads me to be sitting watching TV with ear buds in right now. Dogs, neighbours, cats meowing, bass from cars passing and bangs from neighbours set me off.

BlackeyedGruesome · 29/10/2018 22:14

liquid fucking pours, it does not need to be sucked up. : often said to ex

descroiptions of noises can be distressing too, not always the same way, but even so, the reminder of the pain.

and having been pulled up on it by another poster...

get well soon

YABU. The stress I feel with noises around eating and sniffing and nail picking and keyboard clicking is bloody awful. I think I’m quite reasonable as I remove myself rather than killing the person.

Yonijust · 29/10/2018 22:23

One of my worst is in work meetings. 12 of us in 1 small room.

2 people clicking their pens.

OMFG Angry

CaptainCabinets · 29/10/2018 22:31

But I just want a cuddle Sad

He’s sent the cat up in his place.

This is a ‘lighthearted’ (MNHQ pls don’t ban me) post, I can’t stand chewing noises

Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

Misophonia is real. I find myself getting unreasonably stressed if my DH starts tapping, and he does it a lot as he is a musician. I feel sensations that I can't explain, they're just not nice. I really don't mean to get wound up. I will also leave the room if it gets too much.

KlutzyDraconequus · 29/10/2018 22:41

Aw well he should give you a cuddle, just tell him to put ear buds in and connect it to an MP3 player..

faeriequeen · 29/10/2018 22:46

He sounds like an irritable prick.

CaptainCabinets · 29/10/2018 22:49

@faeriequeen he really isn’t Grin

CaptainCabinets · 29/10/2018 22:56

Okay okay I take it all back. He’s come upstairs with headphones in, doing a little dance to cheer me up. Ballet in boxers Grin
