Job post for a receptionist role...

"cake offerings welcome"

Min wage role and offerings of cake bribary.. Surely a joke?

It could be an attempt to attract candidates by presenting the office as a lovely, warm place where people bring cake in all the time because they're so friendly. I'd be sceptical!

Where is this job, a bakery?

MintyCedric · 29/10/2018 19:33

When I got offered my job and went in to DBS a few days later the first things I was asked were 'Do you bake?' and 'Do you sing?'

I'm a secondary school PA/administrator Smile.

Possibly a bit weird to put it in the advert.

ShadyLady53 · 29/10/2018 19:46

@MintyCedric I think we went for a job at the same school 😂.

I got the job and was expected to do my official support role, teach on the side (I’ve not got a pgce), sing/play guitar/piano/conduct and bake amongst other things. They wanted me to get a van driving license and all sorts. I was on a pay of £247 for 37.5 hours a week, pro frigging rata.

I have Coeliac Disease and don’t bake. I was treated like a complete failure as a woman because I don’t bake. Utter horror from the head master. He was a sexist pig.

I left after a term!

A vets if all places

It’s just an attempt to portray it as a fun workplace. Loads of companies do it. It’s hardly ‘bizarre’.

Excited101 · 29/10/2018 19:54

I quite like it, puts across a bit of office personality.

Toughtips · 29/10/2018 19:58

First I've seen it. Just thought it bizarre that someone could take this to mean if they bring cake they'll be offered a job. Funny.

I’d agree it’s bizarre and if it’s showing “office personality” then the office has a shit personality to think it’s appropriate to put that in an advert.

I now have a delightful image of you walking into the interview bearing a 3 tier cake stand decked out in posh afternoon tea fashion.
