To ask for you help finding a romantic night away NORTH WEST

Posting in AIBU for traffic.

I've just realised that next Saturday night we'll be child AND work free for the first time in nearly a year.

I'm thinking of organising a surprise night away for my DP. He's been working all hours of late due to business issues and also been looking after me and the children whilst I've been really poorly and I'd love to surprise him.

I'm looking for a nice romantic hotel/village/town in the north west uk (no more than 2 hours drive from Manchester) preferably the hotel to be really boutique style. Would consider a nice B&B too.

I guess I'm asking for people to give me their opinions and anywhere nice they've stayed which doesn't cost a small fortune but is lovely.

TIA x

The Inn at Whitewell, Forest of Bowland, not cheap but lovely and some good, fairly easy, walks. About an hour and a half from Manchester.

30 James Street in Liverpool is lovely, has a spa and is near to the docks where there are nice bars/eateries etc.

Love it here. Quiet and romantic and lots of nice local villages. Last time we went we took a detour to the highest pub in England. It's in Yorkshire dales

The fence gate lodge in fence is a lovely boutique hotel in fence on the edge of Pendle hill. Probably about an hour away. The village has some lovely pubs to eat in: fence gate Inn, sparrowhawk, the forest and the newly michelin-starred White swan (or mucky duck to the locals). Clitheroe just over the hill is great for bars and a bit of pottering around the castle/independent shops and then there's also Downham, Wycollar, Barley, Trough of Bowland... all in easy reach by car and are really pretty villages. Plus the views from the hill top are great.

If you want an easy rural retreat it would be lovely. I don't understand why so many people are sniffy about Lancashire, some of it is gorgeous!

That’s fine by me, Uncooperative - it keeps the haters away and keeps it nice and uncrowded and pretty for those of us with good taste Wink

Hi everyone just an update we ended up just going out for a day to Southport, had a lovely leisurely stroll round, spent ages in a huge antique shop and had some lovely tea in the Ramada plaza hotel. We watched fireworks and just had the most amazing day.

Thank you for all your suggestions xx
