To ask for you help finding a romantic night away NORTH WEST

Posting in AIBU for traffic.

I've just realised that next Saturday night we'll be child AND work free for the first time in nearly a year.

I'm thinking of organising a surprise night away for my DP. He's been working all hours of late due to business issues and also been looking after me and the children whilst I've been really poorly and I'd love to surprise him.

I'm looking for a nice romantic hotel/village/town in the north west uk (no more than 2 hours drive from Manchester) preferably the hotel to be really boutique style. Would consider a nice B&B too.

I guess I'm asking for people to give me their opinions and anywhere nice they've stayed which doesn't cost a small fortune but is lovely.

TIA x

I love the lakes. Some places I have stayed and liked are the cottage in the woods (pay for dinner -awesome!) sawrey house hotel and lindeth howe. It's been quite a few years since I was there, though.

thefirsttimer · 28/10/2018 23:15

Aphroditites suites in Windermere would be my recommendation!

sockunicorn · 28/10/2018 23:20

ribby hall is beautiful xx

Coldilox · 28/10/2018 23:35

The Swan at Newby Bridge would be my pick

millymae · 29/10/2018 00:01

I’ve got nothing at all against New Brighton, it’s got lots of good things going for it on a nice day , but a night in the Travel Lodge wouldn’t be my idea of a romantic getaway especially on a cold November evening Wirral definitely has more romantic places than this to offer and if you use the M56 it won’t take you much of an hour to get there, Plus you can always stop off on the way at either Chester or Cheshire Oaks if you fancy a bit of retail therapy before you arrive.
My suggestion is a bit more ‘off piste’ than the others but it may fit the bill and cost less overall..
If you’re driving rather than using public transport there’s what looks to be a cosy airbnb in Parkgate - an old fisherman’s cottage that has recently been done up. Sorry can’t find you a boutique style hotel and It’s true that there’s not much in Parkgate other than pubs, restaurants, ice cream shops and lovely views over the Dee Estuary, but it does have a certain charm especially when you can see all the lights twinkling in Wales.
For dinner I’d book a taxi to Heswall (about 3 miles up the road, so not expensive ) and head to either Burnt Truffle or Nova Restaurants both
of which would be more romantic than anything in Parkgate or New Brighton.
In the morning you can have a bracing walk along the front, grab a coffee in Elephant then head towards Claremont Farm close to the M53 /M56 for breakfast before going home..

I’ve stayed at Rookery Hall near Nantwich and that was really nice. They often have dinner, bed and breakfast deals on

slappinthebass · 29/10/2018 00:26

I'm really tickled at the idea of a travelodge in New Brighton being romantic.

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/10/2018 00:53

Temple sowerby hotel. Boutique near Penrith. Very small and the menu is amazing I think the website is templewowerby.com

iliketomoveitmoveitMOVEIT · 29/10/2018 01:43

Have a look at Moddershall Oaks - it’s lovely and they do good deals.

Zhx3 · 29/10/2018 02:02

Pentre Mawr Country House was lovely, nice hosts and good food. We stayed in a safari tent, but I think I'd go with a room in the house in November!

Zhx3 · 29/10/2018 02:07

I took dh to Lyzzick Hall Hotel near Keswick for his birthday. It sits right at the foot of Skiddaw, has a swimming pool and excellent food - we ate there both nights and they made us an amazing packed lunch for climbing Skiddaw.

We took DDs over the summer. First time I've been. They loved it, fair, amusements, beach. I thought it was a bit rough.

Houseonahill · 29/10/2018 07:52

Chester is lovely this time of year, has some really nice restaurants and shopping is good, also has the river a museum etc depending on what you like doing.

Ansumpasty · 29/10/2018 07:56

Chester Smile

Just going to make a brew and go through all these suggestions now THANKYOU

@RestingButchFace I clicked on your link and I nearly cried, it's the hotel we've looked at at perhaps booking our wedding at, it's my most favourite place in the world x

Elasticity · 29/10/2018 10:50

Romance? North West?

Oxymoron.

mumof2sarah · 29/10/2018 10:54

@Elasticity it doesn't matter where you go as long as you're with the person you love. Make it what you want it to be. After suffering from severe mental health issues plus other health issues I'm looking for something local and nice and I'm asking for advice on ideas for that, not opinions on what people think of the north west.

CarolDanvers · 29/10/2018 11:03

What a silly thing to say. There's some stunning places in the North West. You clearly don't know the area at all but dismiss it anyway. Are you in a bad mood this chilly Monday that you needed to try and make the OP feel a bit deflated? You didn't even offer an alternative, just sneered

BlueStockingUK · 29/10/2018 11:05

Place marking :)

Wanttomakemincepies · 29/10/2018 11:08

Didsbury House hotel in South Manchester is a beautiful boutique hotel and within a few minutes of the M60 and M56.

CurbsideProphet · 29/10/2018 11:08

Low Wood Bay by Lake Windermere (Windermere and Ambleside area) is lovely and the restaurant (Blue Smoke on the Bay) is absolutely fantastic.

Wherever you go I hope you have a lovely time away Smile
