Smart phone use

Has it reached an all time high of obliterating social functioning??

Disclaimer I'm at home on my own kids are in bed. As in I'm not ignoring anyone to post this.

Just been on holiday with a friend. Constant smart phone scrolling. Think it was mostly fb from occasional screen flashes. As in during meals and films and actually all the time. It's very irritating. Said friend used to be almost opppsite and frequently lose her phone or leave it in the car for hours. Those were the days!!

I'm not about to tell another adult what to do etc but the smart phone addiction of all the adults around me seems worse than ever!!

Is it just me getting v tired of it?

Iv just found I can track EXACTLY how many hours & minutes I've done what each week, I'm averaging 171 pick ups a day on my phone 😖

I totally agree. It’s terribke and I am one of the worst offenders! Well I don’t use it when I’m with friends but when I’m “watching TV” or feeding the baby or just random times in the day! I think it has a major impact on mental health and exhaustion, productivity and it’s rude when you’re in company!

I think one of the problems is that I do actually need to look at it for some things (like making a phone call or adding loo roll to my shopping basket) and then I get side tracked. And it’s addictive, it’s an escape isn’t it!

I really can't pass judgement on alone time use it's what I'm doing right now but I would never do this in company!!!

It’s out of control and I’m a terrible offender, though not in company. Can I ask how the posters above can see how often they go on their phones? I need to sort this out once and for all in my life!

Badwifey · 28/10/2018 22:03

How do you track your usage? I'd love to be able to just get rid of mine and go back to an old style phone but nearly all of my messaging is done through whattsap

If you’re on iPhone look at the Moment app.
There’s an android equivalent but I’ve forgotten the name.

I agree! I hate the fact that no-one phones each other anymore! It is really sad!

I have an app called 'Your Hour' which shows how many unlocks and amount of screen time. It also shows a timer for each app so whenever I open one I can see how long I've spent on that particular app that day. Over a certain time (I can set my own limits) and it goes red, it'll give me a warning which I can turn off or ask for two more minutes.

At the moment I'm just amazing myself by how much time, I haven't had it more than a few days so time will tell if it makes me limit my screen time. I do feel bad though, looking at that little red timer for Chrome right now - too long on here today!
