First world problems I know - it’s a jokey thread before I get comments.
Is it me or does imported Coca Cola (with different laungage writing) taste different?
I’ve fled a relationship and in a new house. My dad kindly bought me a takeaway after 10 days of us living on cold tins and crackers. I was so looking forward to a cold can of coke and got this weird tasting one instead
Ps it’s so nice to finally be able to be back on MN and not have ex be jealous of the time spent on here!
BrickByBrick · 28/10/2018 20:47
Surely it has to taste better than the Pepsi Max I was forced to have just had at the pub. Coke is coke to me though.
All the best though for the future.
Mulberry72 · 28/10/2018 20:49
Can’t comment on the Coke as I don’t drink it OP, but good luck for your new beginning and may your Coke always be cold in future xxx
youngestisapsycho · 28/10/2018 20:49
They do taste different.... there was lots of Polish coke around a few years back... was always checking cans in smaller shops for the ‘GB’ mark!
NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 28/10/2018 20:50
Afaik they do have different blends for different countries, so it probably does taste different. Like the time dh bought me an imported peanut lion bar. Most disappointing chocolate bar ever!
spanieleyes · 28/10/2018 20:51
Definitely tastes different, Diet Coke on the continent is just not quite right!
BoomTish · 28/10/2018 20:51
If you’re talking about Mexican Coke YADBU. That stuff is the fizzy nectar of the gods.
Loftyswops988 · 28/10/2018 20:52
imported coke in a glass bottle is the best!!! but not a can for some reason, i feel your pain
MongerTruffle · 28/10/2018 20:52
Water in different places tastes different, so soft drinks do too.
Coca-Cola doesn't actually make the final product. They make the syrup, and then local companies in each country mix it with sparkling water. Restaurants mix the syrup with their own water as well.
I was once given Coca-Cola Zero Sugar instead of normal Coca-Cola by a restaurant. I wanted to report it to Trading Standards (I didn't, because I thought my complaint would be laughed out of town). I don't want to pump my body full of aspartame.
leccybill · 28/10/2018 20:52
Yes I was on holiday in Croatia this year and most hotels do Rola Cola instead of actual Coca-Cola. So I bought some glass bottles of Coke from a supermarket and it didn't taste right - more vanillary I think.
Welcome back to MN btw x
monkeysox · 28/10/2018 20:54
Most places give diet or zero sugar shite by default now. Vile
Sitranced · 28/10/2018 20:54
Tastes better I think. Only ever buy fizzy drinks from import shops.
Fruitbatdancer · 28/10/2018 20:55
Yes, different coke recipes in most countries. Their visitor centre in Atlanta has somewhere where you can taste and compare!
Ps congrats on your freedom!
ScottyTeapot · 28/10/2018 20:56
I used to work for Coke, and the reason it tastes different is down to the difference in the water used at the relevant bottling plant. Just like water tastes different if you travel within the UK.
Also, takeaways will often buy 'grey import' Coke, as it's cheaper = higher margin.
Fruitbatdancer · 28/10/2018 20:59
Pps coke in a glass bottle is Better than plastic bottle or can. Something to do with it going into glass bottles at room temperature, but effectively being used as a coolant when put in plastic bottles or cans which slightly distorts the flavour. Ps I don’t work for coke, I just luvs it.

I love Rola Cola. The taste of childhood memories. Oh, and dandelion and burdock and cocopina (???) from the milkman. Yummm. Ah I miss the milkman.
Congrats on your freedom OP welcome back
Justabadwife · 28/10/2018 21:19
I had a bottle of coke once, and it tasted odd, but I couldn't work out why. Turns out it was imported. Still it was better than the flat coke morrisons value flat coke i drank at MILs once 🤢🤢
Good luck OP 🖤
HCantThinkOfAUsername · 31/10/2018 19:11
Oh don’t my dad bless him likes to fill up an old empty Coca Cola bottle with value coke for Christmas to save money I don’t have the heart to tell him I worked it out - around 10 years ago
GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 31/10/2018 20:06
Better than my local Dominos that seems to think Cherry Coke is a proper substitute if they don't have diet or zero coke. completely different drink! I really miss having a pizza hut nearby, they do Pepsi products. Pepsi Max is a 1000x better than any form of coke!
