To feel homesick

Husband, I and Doggy rent and we moved from our place we were in for four and a half years. Our new place is in a slightly less nice area but it is bigger. We didn't have lots of choice as most landlords won't allow dogs.

Moved in yesterday and it is lovely, but first of all I couldn't close a window all the way and as it was freezing an almighty draft took over the whole lounge. Then I tried to get the heating going to combat that until Monday when I would call the landlord. And that just isn't heating up. It's something called a storage heater and apparently it needs to build up but it's been nearly 24 hours and it's nearly lukewarm. The place is freezing.

Thought I would have a nice hot bath and despite using the boost button on the water heater in the kitchen the water is still freezing. After a few attempts, so we also have no hot water. I don't know if I am missing something, the landlord didn't seem the kind to let you move in somewhere with broken equipment. He bought a brand new fridge freezer before we moved in.

I don't want to text him on a Sunday night as it's such a Moany new tenant impression but it's so annoying!

I rented a place with storage heaters - pain in the arse to be honest. They heat up at night, and dispense them in the day. You have to heat them up overnight. Faff with the thermostats... I hated them. If you google the type you have it should explain. I am aware I am not making sense.
I assume you have the regular water heater on too, as well as the boost? Again, google might be your friend?

Oh god definitely text him!! You need warmth and he might be able to give you an easy solution like a switch you missed.

I have storage heaters in my rental. I hate them! Hot water bottle, layers and the occasional blast of my electric fan heater are my friends.

Honestly, I would nag your landlord ASAP on Monday. The sooner you complain the sooner you'll be warm. Again re being homesick, you have my sympathy, I live in a flat opposite my previous much nicer rental. If I walk past it or catch a glimpse on bad days, I occasionally cry :(.

We get on ok with storage heaters; they keep our flat warm throughout the day without having to “put them on” in the day but we did buy an oil filled radiator thing too to give our loung a bit of a warm up when we need it.

Ah, one of my issues with them is that the ones in my flat are temperamental and they are horrendous for my sinuses. Hence why I can only do a quick blast of the heater, too.
