To feel shame (looked up, tongue mid-lick..

Shriekingbanshee · 28/10/2018 16:17

...to see opposite neighbour looking out her kitchen window at me, licking plates before loading dishwasher)

I am not sure whether to be horrified at being caught out red-handed as it were, mid-lick, cleaning my dish before loading it in d'washer or just, oh well, I love my food and none will go to waste whilst I'm around.

Its gross though isn't it...oh... am swinging here...I just can't get enough of the taste and I need to portion control, so don't want to leave anything!

You should adopt the medieval approach to dining: a large chunk of dense bread was the plate. No washing up, see.

Aw that must have been mortifying!

I don't lick my plates, but hey, do what you want in the privacy of your own house!

To all those complaining, I take it no one ever picks their nose for example? Ever? Or has habits that others might frown on if they were witnessed?

OP your post made me chuckle - a funny anecdote about being caught out in - what your thought was - the privacy of your own home and how the context changes from normal to complete embarrassment! Mumsnet always surprises me - one minute its full of liberal minded, witty individuals and then suddenly the stepford wife brigade comes along - “that’s disgusting, the shame!, don’t do that in public or in front of the children!”... then again, it was....licking a plate - the horror!!! 😂🤣

Also read back my OP, which says I was caught licking plates. I say that I was licking my dish.
..the DC. It's kinda been a running thing from when they were little, none would do it in front of others, I would never, hence my actual Halloween Blush moment when our eyes met. She looked away quickly realising I'd seen her watching...
Now I joke about their plates not being as shiny as mine, as theres not much left on mine even using a knife and fork, but licking definitely does go on.

I take left-overs from DCs plates, a habit coined when feeding young ones, BF, and never having time to sit down to eat properly myself, a habit I don't seem to have dropped. I would never take something from someone else's plates! Not dc, i mean

In fairness it was not a random stranger plate,it was her own and her kids plate
Sure it’ll not feature in Debretts and unlikely to catch on at weddings but she was in her own house, having a sneaky wee lick...big deal
all this affected oh my giddy aunt revolting, disgusting is a bit much. Get a Pomander and don’t think about it if you’re that badly affected

Am loving the curtains, blinds and nets references! I have none, so its not the plate licking aspect that's the issue, its the keeping it hidden Halloween Grin

Your own, those of your children, any plate - similarly revolting. I’m surprised you bother with plates at all.
