To buy a Dunhelm sofa?

AutumnMadness · 28/10/2018 12:54

This sofa is reduced from £500 to £400 in our local Dunhelm. I am considering the green one. It's so comfy and cheap. But why is it so cheap, what's the catch? Anybody bought sofas from Dunhelm? Thanks so much!

Probably ex display or just getting rid of outdated stock

AutumnMadness · 28/10/2018 13:01

Thanks! But even the original price is stupidly low....

Maybe because it's green?

tiggy20 · 28/10/2018 13:05

I bought a Dunelm sofa a few weeks ago for £380 including delivery. It’s brilliant & looks much more expensive. Lots of people have commented on how nice it is.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 28/10/2018 13:05

Green is quite fashionable at the moment in interiors, unicorn

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 28/10/2018 13:14

Lots of places sell very cheap sofas these days. They are usually cheaply manufactured, cheap MDF frames, stapled and/or glued joints, polyester or bonded leather covers rather than natural fabrics cotton/wool/linen/leather.

They are fine for occasional seating or if you’re happy to change it in a couple of years.

Was there supposed to be a link in your OP, btw?

AutumnMadness · 28/10/2018 13:21

Sorry, it's this one: www.dunelm.com/product/lenoy-3-seater-velvet-sofa-1000113253?searchRedirect=true&searchTerm=lenoy%203

That’s nice, autumn. I’ve no idea re the quality/longevity of Dunelm sofas vs others of similar price but I think generally you get what you pay for and so long as you don’t expect a lifetime of service from this, it’ll be fine.

AutumnMadness · 28/10/2018 13:39

Thanks, everyone. If you had one of their sofas in the past, I would love to know how long it laster. I bought sofas at three times this price before, made to order and all, and can't say that they are in super shape six years down the road.

Thanks, DonDrapersOldFashioned, I love the colour. And is really firm and compact, just like I like it.

It looks good...I like one long seat cushion...the velvet may wear on the edges though

JuniperBeer · 28/10/2018 13:43

Looks similar to Ikea klippan sofa. Most uncomfortable ever. Can you lounge on it? Is the back v rigid?

greendale17 · 28/10/2018 13:48

I wouldn’t expect much quality wise from Dunelm

Sunflowersforever · 28/10/2018 13:49

Beautiful sofa. Looks great. I've had dunelm sofas for work and was happy with the quality

PhilODox · 28/10/2018 13:54

It looks lovely! But how comfy is it to sit on? The back is v low, and I don't find low sofas comfortable for long periods of time, personally.

RavenLG · 28/10/2018 14:08

We have a sofa from Dunelm, and it’s reaoly comfy. However they are an absolutely shit show with delivery, and it took us 5+ weeks to get it delivered AFTER waiting 6 weeks to get to made and the original delivery date was confirmed. Thier customer service was absolutely appalling, it was a chore for them to speak to me or find out any information for me. I was constantly chasing and they really didn’t care. It was an external delivery company but becase of this they pretty which wiped thier hands of responsibility and lied on several occasions (plus the delivery company customer service was shite too it took 20 minutes for someone to answer the phone one day!) it wasn’t worth the stress tbh.

Unicornandbows · 28/10/2018 14:11

I actually think it looks really nice and at a good price.

watchmefly · 28/10/2018 20:01

I agree about late deliveries which their customer service department really, really couldn’t have cared less about. Goods arrived damaged and dirty. Local Dunelm store and its staff is lovely but I will never buy anything that needs to delivered from them ever again.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 15/03/2019 09:43

Sorry to revive, but, better than starting another. We're considering a dunelm sofa, but are worried about longevity. In saying that, the worst sofas we ever bought were £1500 from m&s. Couldn't wait to get rid.
So, any update on this?

mogtheexcellent · 15/03/2019 11:20

Probably same quality as dfs. Don't expect much but you may be pleasantly surprised.

I like it. And envious of green. I wasnt allowed green...
