AIBU to like a 'crunchy' duvet

DH and I have decided we want a new duvet for winter.

Been to a few shops and had a look but they all have a really soft/cottony feel to them.

Own current duvet has an almost crunchy sound to it when snuggle down. I like my duvet to be really heavy and kind of associate the 'crunchy' sound to being cosy now.

Any suggestions of what duvets you use? I'm not bothered whether it's natural fibres or man made I just really want a crunchy duvet!!!!!!

Duck feather ( obviously you need an ethical one )
Light weight and crunchy Grin but soooo warm.

SistersOfHearsey · 27/10/2018 14:30

Ooh I know! I bought a crunchy duvet the other week. It was a Dormer sumptuous like down and was I think £70 from denelm. It rustles. It's amazing. We live it so much we bought the matching mattress topper which also crunches.

Frankly it's miraculous I get up.

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2018 14:32

Oh yes, there's nothing like a lovely, cosy, crunchy, feather duvet. So snug & warm.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 27/10/2018 14:33

Crunchy all the way.

Sethis · 27/10/2018 14:33

YABVU

Bedclothes should be the closest thing to a cloud that you can get, to obtain a feeling of floating in perfectly body temperature water, suspended in nothingness.

Crunchy... eurgh.

sunstrokecity · 27/10/2018 14:35

Sethis my dh fully agrees with you! I just can't imagine not having the reassuring crunch when you roll over and wrap up in it!
Will definitely head to Dunelm tomorrow to do the crunch test!!

The good thing with dunelm is everything is out there for prime fondling. Go have a good squidge

BunnyCake · 27/10/2018 14:42

Do you mean the outer cover or the filling crunches?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 27/10/2018 14:43

Filling

Paddingtonthebear · 27/10/2018 14:44

Ooh no. Wool duvets all the way. Game changer!

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 27/10/2018 14:44

No crunchy duvet advice from me (not at all helpful I know) as it's wool duvets all the way in our house.

sunstrokecity · 27/10/2018 14:47

I'm guessing it must be a combination of outer and filling.

I've never really thought about which part actually makes the crunch

I got a non feather slightly crunchy one from ikea!

peachgreen · 27/10/2018 14:48

I like a duvet so thin it's practically see-through. Just a bit heavier than a sheet.

SistersOfHearsey · 27/10/2018 14:52

See now I was recommended wool on my thread. DH and I both felt it inshore and both hated it.

The crunch factor can be added to massively with high thread count duvet covers. DH balked a bit when I spent about £50 on a duvet cover, but even he insists on decent count bedding now.

SistersOfHearsey · 27/10/2018 14:53

Instore. I have no idea what is going on with this machine today.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 27/10/2018 14:57

We have a crunchy one and I love it. I think only feathered ones are crunchy so you probably what to get another feather one.

FTFF · 27/10/2018 15:04

We have a really crunchy duvet from Argos. DH was saying the other day he loves the crunchy/rustling it makes.
I wear earplugs so I can't hear it but it's very rustley when I make the bed.

Pfingstrose · 27/10/2018 15:06

Oooh I love a crunchy duvet!

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 27/10/2018 15:08

The most important thing is to get a duvet bigger than your bed! We have a super king duvet (from Dunelm) on a double bed, it stopped the duvet wars in the middle of the night.

In the summer we have separate duvets as I overheat easily so switch to a thin one and DH uses the 10.5tog one.

vinegarqueen · 27/10/2018 15:25

oooh conflicted: crunchy gives me that cosy nostalgic feeling of being at my grandparent's house, and I love being weighted down by a quilt. However I cannot abide the whole ”feathers poking through the quilt lining” scratchy thing. Plus if my OH finds out he has been sleeping under a feather duvet (doesn't matter if it is years or days) he claims he is allergic and puts the ill voice on. So currently featherless and not crunchy.

Drivemecrazy1974 · 27/10/2018 15:31

I know what you mean, but i HATE the word CRUNCHY that you've chosen to use. Makes it sound, well, a bit gross and would make me wonder what has caused it to be crunchy.
I always think of the noise a feather duvet makes as more of a reassuring rustle.
However, you are not being unreasonable in wanting that sound - you're just being unreasonable (in my opinion, but I'm probably weird) in using the word 'crunchy!'.

straightjeans · 27/10/2018 16:37

My duvet is crunchy but the feathers stab me all the time!

SistersOfHearsey · 27/10/2018 16:40

Thats why I love my dormer one, all crunch and no feather
