AIBU to like a 'crunchy' duvet

sunstrokecity · 27/10/2018 14:24

DH and I have decided we want a new duvet for winter.

Been to a few shops and had a look but they all have a really soft/cottony feel to them.

Own current duvet has an almost crunchy sound to it when snuggle down. I like my duvet to be really heavy and kind of associate the 'crunchy' sound to being cosy now.

Any suggestions of what duvets you use? I'm not bothered whether it's natural fibres or man made I just really want a crunchy duvet!!!!!!

@Sethis I hope you have a silk duvet, you would be on heaven.

Sparklingbrook · 27/10/2018 16:46

Oooh no. I like a really thin non crunchy duvets.

I hate the heavy rustly duvets that pin you to the bed so you can barely roll over.

ALongHardWinter · 27/10/2018 17:46

I have a 'crunchy' duvet, and I love it because it's warm and cosy. BT I do get pissed off with the odd feather poking through and stabbing me!

MadisonMontgomery · 27/10/2018 17:50

If you like crunchy get a proper old-fashioned eiderdown - I have a wool duvet then in winter an eiderdown over the top on really cold nights, folded at the bottom of the bed the rest of the time. It is the heaviest, crunchiest thing ever and I love it. Mines from www.belindadavieseiderdowns.co.uk

@Ohyesiam

I tried silk sheets once. Got excited to try them out. Jumped onto the bed. Slid off the other side onto my face.

After that the duvet kept slipping off in the middle of the night. Just sticking with 100% cotton from now on!

Ohyesiam · 27/10/2018 20:11

@Sethis ouch!
I meant the silk filled duvets, lighter than a cloud and soooooo warm.

Nutkins24 · 27/10/2018 20:15

Ooo I like a crunchy duvet too. Mines from ikea but I’m not sure which one, some sort of feather filling.

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 27/10/2018 20:21

I like the crunch but I get woken up by it whenever my DH moves. So annoying!

iliketomoveitmoveitMOVEIT · 27/10/2018 20:29

The thought of all those feathers is making my nose tickle Grin

I like a scratchy towel rather than a soft one though. Am I weird??

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 27/10/2018 20:34

Love a crunchy duvet with a crunchy cotton duvet cover! We got our duvets from the White Company - worth every penny!

Donthugmeimscared · 27/10/2018 20:40

You can get crunchy duvets? I've grown up with value duvets that are paper thin and go out of shape over time. One day I will get something better but for now anything over £10 seems excessive.

HashTagLil · 27/10/2018 20:55

Get a wool duvet. Bliss......

Athena51 · 27/10/2018 21:01

I am all about the Baavet wool duvet. It's heaven.

DarkDarkNight · 27/10/2018 21:11

I didn’t want a Down duvet but loved the feel of them. I’ve had a Debenhams duvet (microfibre ‘feels like down’) and one from Dunelm’s hotel rangeand they were both lovely and crunchy.

FTFF · 27/10/2018 21:14

@iliketomoveitmoveitMOVEIT scratchy towels are the best. DH was horrified the first time he used my jaggy towels! He now admits they're the best.

OvOntToSuckYourBlood · 27/10/2018 21:14

I HATE noisy duvets!

I have a silk one and it’s silent. Grin
So thin (it’s like a blanket rather than a puffy duvet) and light. Cost a fortune (to me) but one of those things that’s been worth every penny.

RocksSocksFoxBox · 27/10/2018 21:16

My SIL bought a cheap one from Argos for her spare room and it is the best crunchy duvet ever. I love it, I don't think they stock it now though sadly ☹️

fluffycatinahat · 27/10/2018 21:19

Yabvu I can't cope with crunchy.

I'm all about a silk duvet stops me overheating, it's not lightweight though

Why do people recommend wool out of interest?

ReverseTheFerret · 27/10/2018 21:20

I like the weight of a heavy duvet but no crunch. I tend to top up with blankets that slide onto the floor overnight but the weight helps me drop off to sleep initially. Also two thinner double duvets on top of each other (I just put a plain coordinating cover on the bottom one) so DH can grab one when he comes to bed and not steal all of mine or viciously lie and claim I've stolen it all when I simply like turning into some kind of duvet covered caterpillar with no hole for cold air coming in whatsoever.

Recipe for bliss.

Athena51 · 27/10/2018 21:31

@fluffycatinahat

Wool is a temperature regulator rather than insulator so it doesn't get hotter and hotter but gets warm and then stays comfy.

I'd never buy any other kind of duvet now.

folduptheocean · 27/10/2018 21:33

Yes I am so with you OP.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/10/2018 21:36

I love a heavy, rustly duvet. I have ASD so there's a thing about having weight on you for comfort. I am horribly allergic to feathers though. I need a synthetic one! I went to a wool gathering today and Baavet duvets were there. Never heard of then until I saw it on MN.

swapsicles · 27/10/2018 21:42

Best crunchy one I had was a 100% cotton one from dunelm, cotton cover and filling, dd stole it and I've never found another, all the cotton ones are just cotton covers, bit useless! It's heavy but not hot, perfect!

Bluntness100 · 27/10/2018 21:44

Do you mean it rustles? Crunchy makes it sound like it's hard.

I bought these goose down and feather ones and they are fantastic, genuinely like a luxury hotel one, and so good I bought them for all the beds.
