To ask for help with crying baby

Sorry but posting here for traffic!

My 4 month is currently screaming her head off. Evening is the only reliable time she sleeps and tonight she just won't. She'll fall asleep on me but if I try and put her down she sobs in her sleep. If DP picks her up the screams get worse.

She's fed. Clean nappy. Calpol an hour ago in case teeth hurting. No temp. Room is warm

Help! What am I missing? I can't spend the whole night awake!

@Choice4567 - depends if you have a grown spurt and exciting development changes run into each other, but the 4 monyh upset stage lasts no more than 2 weeks (I have a 7.5 month old, so it wasn't long ago here). Hope you slept well.

Choice4567 · 28/10/2018 06:30

@IABURQO I wish it was 2 weeks! She used to sleep 9-3 and then 3:30-7am but its been 4 weeks of barely sleeping now! But you're right it could be something else.

She slept for an hour and a half on my face this morning so I suppose that's better than nothing!

I think it was 4-5 weeks here. It will end though

babbscrabbs · 28/10/2018 07:00

It's hard when their sleep gets worse, especially as she was such a great sleeper beforehand. Until they're about 18 months - 2 years old sleep isn't linear eg it doesn't consistently improve. In fact the worst sleep for us with dc2 was 8-10 months (with dc1 it was 4-5 months).

My DC sleep gets worse just before they get ill so there's a possibility of that, however it can seem like they're ill or in pain when they get upset during a sleep regression too - but if you think you've ruled this out then it probably is developmental. We ended up co sleeping which helped.

Please don't leave your child to cry it out. They're tiny.

Choice4567 · 28/10/2018 07:13

@babbscrabbs don't worry, even if I wanted to leave her to cry (which I don't!) I couldn't because there are other children asleep in the house

She may need comfort - perhaps a dummy?

She has comfort - her mother

MrTrebus · 28/10/2018 09:12

Dummy if you're into those. Gripe water if she's ok for the age on that can't remember how old they have to be. Infacol before every feed as well subject to age restrictions again!

I feel your pain! We went through this with dd2 just before she was 4 months old. I thought it would never end! Lasted 6 weeks for us.
The only thing that worked was co- sleeping. Dh slept- still does - in spare room.
We have finally passed it and dd sleeps in co- sleeper cot. Goes down very easily at 7pm - bottle to sleep and then rocked.
She has one bottle overnight though she generally won't go back in her cot after that bottle so she's in my arms .
It's a tough stage but hopefully you are neatly through it

Choice4567 · 28/10/2018 11:47

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 aha! Thank you! I'm going to hope that my DD copies yours. Another couple of weeks maybe and then she can sleep through like a trooper! 🤞

Yes like everything , this is a phase! I honestly thought this was my life for the next two years while I was goi f through it but thankfully it does end!
I think co- sleep for now and in two weeks try all over again.
Good luck and drink all the coffee available!
( also a nice gin in the evening works a treat Wink)

Choice4567 · 28/10/2018 17:41

She been extra grizzly all day today, especially when not being cuddled by me. Starting to think she might be a bit under the weather or maybe the final push before a tooth actually appears!
