I have two cards - one for personal use and a second for work expenses. The work one usually has a few 000’s on but work pay it direct each month. The personal card is paid off in full each month and everything I spend each month goes on it from food shopping, clothes, holidays, petrol, DT’s Uni fees and expenses, even my coffee on the way to work- the air mile points pay for the majority of our long haul holiday flights.

caterpuller · 26/10/2018 16:58

Nothing. Hate credit cards after getting in to debt as a student and new graduate. If we can't afford it, we don't buy it.

BoogieFeet · 26/10/2018 16:58

Zero, pay them off in full each month.

TheClitterati · 26/10/2018 16:59

£200 but I pay it in full every month. Its more convenient to use CC when shopping on the internet.

Jamct23 · 26/10/2018 17:00

About £5000 Blush

lovesugarfreejelly63 · 26/10/2018 17:02

Never had a credit card.

DiaryStrife · 26/10/2018 17:02

Nothing. Although I’m sinking under parking tickets and DART charges which I’m ignoring Blush

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 26/10/2018 17:04

Until recently DP and I had £16,000 between us, all 0%. It’s now consolidated with a loan from a relative and we’re paying back a set amount each month.

bluetrampolines · 26/10/2018 17:09

If he had a baby and was on mat leave would he have taken a credit card to pay the mortgage?

ivykaty44 · 26/10/2018 17:09

...

NiceUnusualDifferent · 26/10/2018 17:11

@CantWaitToRetire that’s what I’d love to do but, at the moment my credit rating isn’t good enough. If I maintain the payments I’m currently making and don’t reduce them as the minimum payment reduces it will take 4 Years to clear. However that’s nearly all my disposable income so not really sustainable.
I’m hoping that’s I am keep to it long enough to to improve my credit rating enough to access a loan. At the moment I’m only eligible for a loan at a rate of 48.9%!!

Aprilsinparis · 26/10/2018 17:13

2.5 million….........Just joking, zilch. Very boring I'm afraid.

Allthepinkunicorns · 26/10/2018 17:15

£0 I had a credit card when I was a student and got myself into trouble it went to debt collectors and I had to have a payment plan luckily it was only £500 but it was quite a lot at the time for me. I have sworn I will never have one again since I paid it off which was over 10 years ago now.

Tupperwarelid · 26/10/2018 17:15

£1800

Rebecca36 · 26/10/2018 17:16

Approximately £8,000.

GoodbyeSummer · 26/10/2018 17:17

£3400.
Dh owes in the region of £7500.
We're working on reducing it but we're so skint it's difficult.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/10/2018 17:17

Nothing. I only really got one after my debit card didn't work one time and I had to phone my mum to pay for my petrol!

I do think they have their place though. I had my wages reduced 20% for 4 months a few years ago (financial crisis) and it was very useful.

Poppyinagreenfield · 26/10/2018 17:17

Nothing.

dontalltalkatonce · 26/10/2018 17:18

We have one we use for internet shopping and booking hotels and holidays but we pay it off every month. Had an £84 balance from holiday earlier this month but paid it off already.

BoomTish · 26/10/2018 17:20

Nothing.

I hate credit cards. I only use mine if I want to have additional peace of mind through the insurance. I transfer the amount immediately once the transaction has cleared, so I don’t have the debt but have the security.

I also have a rule where I’ll never put anything on a credit card that I won’t have when the bill arrives- groceries, petrol, takeaway etc.
I get that not everyone is in a position to do this, though.

Howhot · 26/10/2018 17:21

£650. I got a 0% one back in April when I found out I was PG so if I saw any decent deals on baby stuff I could get them asap. I plan on using it throughout my maternity leave if needed but I think we'll manage ok. I'm cool with £650, I could pay it off in 2 paydays but as it's 0% I'm not fussed really, as long as I don't add much more. I'll be adding a new house purchase to it soon taking to around £1000 then I'll pay if off gradually. I wouldn't be comfortable with more than that.

Cambalamb · 26/10/2018 17:22

Nowt.

gotafeelingwithin · 26/10/2018 17:23

Zero but my partner has about £350 on one card plus a massive overdraft .. so that's family debt.

My partner is not good with money, so I run the joint account bills. But he insists on spending on things I don't authorise, so uses his personal account. There's no helping him on that.

Littlepond · 26/10/2018 17:23

Only the amount I have had to pay removal company so we can move next week. Will pay it off with proceeds of sale.

BiologyMatters · 26/10/2018 17:24

@Bumble1830

And anyone else who is only making minimum payments. There is a very helpful poster on the financial boards called Talkinpeace who pointed out on a thread that if you only make minimum payments it will take you 20 years to pay off your credit card. But if you stop spending on your credit card and pay £1 more than the minimum payment it could be clear in two years. The card provider adjust the minimum payment very slightly each month to ensure that you are continuing to pay for the longest period possible. The poster above has done spreadsheet where you can enter your level of debt and the payment you are making and it will tell you how long it will take you to pay it off.
